That's a cesspool of a gym with terrible sight lines for fans. Long past being "quirky" with benches at the end, etc, Memorial is not Fenway Park. Greatly enjoyed the game there a couple of years back with Knecht leading the way. A long time Vandy fan with season tix in our row left early(big Vol contingent there) and commented on the way out that it was the worst she'd ever seen!

Vandie "gym" is little more than anything antiquated garage, worst anywhere. Memorial Mockery, no less. Flush the commode-doors into their own cesspool.

And Howard Bayne 6'6" 230 was Chairman of the Boards and all around enforcer in the early 60s. I recall one game at Vandy I think their player was Snake Grace, details vague but Howard was NOT happy with the Snake.

The rivalry during the Mears-Skinner years was intense. Mears would stroll up and down in front of the Vandy student section pre-game and get them lathered up! Some great players in those early years even before Bernie-Ernie. Jimmy England, Billy Justus, Boerwinkle!!

Don Johnson. Billy Hahn. Bobby Croft. Mike Edwards. Larry Robinson.

I know it’s kind of a dump, but I’d love too see a game there one day. I’m a sucker for odd, quirky setups. On TV, it’s hard to even conceptualize what’s going on in that arena.

Went to college with Snake’s younger brother Garland at Belmont down the street from Memorial. Small college ball was a fun diversion. But did so with earphones from my transistor radio blaring John Ward lots of times. Then would go back to my room to watch those late night replays. Life was good.

In 1968 I went to see Carole King concert at Vandy gym....First time, I thought, what a neat place for a concert, as we were just above her 15 rows back..(great, great show).. n I could see her clearly!
Years later I went back for a game and was like... "they gonna' play BB here"????? Sad place!!

One should experience a game in that place in order to realize what a joke it is...poor sightlines (except at mid-court), concourse & entries into the actual gym are ridiculous, & if you're unlucky to be in the upper "end zones", you may as well be watching from a cardboard box.

Yeah, and Vandy always threw oranges on the court.

Who is TN going to put on Tanner? I'm afraid he will eat TN guards up.
Start with Boswell with a heavy rotation of Evans maybe? Hopefully not too much JG as we don’t want too much of his energy going to D as we need all his scoring. Also, he’s been really effective lately guarding off the ball and jumping passing lanes for steals. Will take a team effort to guard Tanner

This is the case with so many current teams, but to beat Vandy it is imperative that we limit transition and force them off the 3-point line and into half court 2's. Much like Alabama, take away the 3-point line and they can't beat us. Transition and 3's are what create those killer 9-0, 12-0 runs that can ruin a game.

first basketball game I attended was in memorial against the vols in 1956 or 57. About all I can remember was that we had floor (or sub-floor seats) thanks to a friend of my Dad's who was in Nashville to referee the game, We soon moved to Knoxville and rarely missed a game in Stokely as the Mears era got underway
