NCAA WBB tourney 2026

To climb the mountain, she first has to figure out how to win her conference imo. Don’t believe she has ever done that, but nothing leads me to believe it is out of reach with her recruiting prowess and brand school. As for her actual coaching chops, which I think was your point, it is probably safe to say that her career story is far from over so there is hope for Heel fans. I tend to lean towards the idea that she is a really good coach but maybe never reaches the great coach moniker.
When she was at Princeton she seemed to be a first rate coach at both ends of the floor.
Since arriving at UNC her teams' defenses have been fine, but her offense coaching is in Kellie Harper territory, around a solid B+, or in these times of grade inflation, an A-.
And, to Brittannica's point, she does seem to be a very fine person.

Another reason to bring Kara or Walz to the SEC 😅

There is hope. I am very excited to see what next year with Kate Harpring brings. They also have seemingly scrounged up more NIL to land players of that caliber. Just maybe need to find an offense somewhere.

Define “Kelly Harper territory” my good friend. I do not intend to be a burr in the saddle, I was just interested if indeed their teams were similar in offensive production as you implied. I ask because I do not know. My first hunch upon reading your statement was that I would have thought Coach Harper had better offenses, as a whole over time. Peace.

Also, I have not looked up Banghart’s win % at UNC, is it also significantly better than Harper’s 68% at UT? It well may be.

If the Gophers pull it off tonight, I’ll have to root for them to win it all.
Maple, I have Minn as my Cinderella team to follow this tourney, believe the task before them is way to difficult to accomplish but love the story with that team and it just wreaks of good vibes for the sport.

I’m checking out the Women’s Sweet 16 games until the elite Vols Men’s team take on Iowa State in the Sweet 16!
Pretty scrappy game so far between Minnesota and UCLA. The thing that never fails in March Madness is these games slow down.
As for the Vols Men’s team any player stepping on the court tonight better gets some rocks in their pocket for this one because it’s going to be physical and I mean physical! I would love for Coach Caldwell, players, and coaches to watch this game tonight and just start thinking about how they want to compete next season. I know one thing you better get your popcorn ready!
The LVs 2026-2027 loading and we coming🍊🏀!!
GBO.

Rather than interposing my personal interpretation, here is the raw data. Winning % at UT and at UNC are nearly identical.

Interesting that Harper’s conference record at UT was significantly better than Banghart’s at UNC to date. I see the overall win % numbers are similar, slight advantage to Harper. But typically conference games are the meat of the schedule, and Harper was in the tougher conference but exceeded there as well. Again, not sure which one had the better offensive numbers as was our first contemplation.

Moving from the detail level to a 10,000’ view (where a pressurized cabin is advisable),
both lived in the top third of their respective conferences, but never won the conference crown. Hence, pretty good but not great.

Agreed! I will have to follow them more next season. They have a talented class coming in.

@1reVOLver ,If I may be allowed to take the plane to a lower altitude Captain, I played with Gemini (not a forte of mine I confess) and came up with this for Harper:

Here is the scoring breakdown for Tennessee under Coach Harper:
  • 2019-2020: ~65-68 PPG (Initial season rebuilding, relied heavily on Rennia Davis).
  • 2020-2021: ~65-68 PPG (Season with limited fans/impact of COVID-19).
  • 2021-2024: ~70-75 PPG (Final three seasons, increased to top-tier SEC scoring efficiency).
And this for Banghart:

  • 2025–26 (In Progress): Averaging 69.6 points per game (through Feb 2026). Note: The team averaged over 80 points during Nov/Dec 2025 before cooling down to 68 in January 2026.
  • 2024–25: Finished the season averaging 69.6 points per game.
  • 2023–24: Averaged 67.8 points per game.
  • 2022–23: Averaged 68.9 points per game.
  • 2021–22: Averaged 73.1 points per game.
  • 2020–21: Averaged 74.7 points per game.
  • 2019–20: Averaged 73.1 points per game.
I would have to say your initial analysis was spot on, “bout equal” on offense. The primary difference being that Harper’s teams scored more as her career progressed at UT each year and Banghart’s have done the opposite at UNC, declining as her career there has progressed.. Interesting observation from a close fly by at just a bit above ground level. Keep your parachute handy, I claim no province at any altitude.

Cool story, mane. Maybe you can “ax” Kim to do just that.
