NCAA Tournament other games thread

The lock of the day today is Michigan State over Louisville. Tom Izzo vs. a glorified high school coach.
I understand that Kelsey isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but how on earth is he a “high school coach”? He’s won everywhere he’s been. And did you forget how bad Louisville was when he took over? They had won just 38 games in the previous four seasons before Kelsey arrived. Kenny Payne was about as bad a head coach as you can possibly be.

Kenny Payne may be the worst head coach in the history of the college game. You also realize his two seasons are an aberration compared to the 50+ years of national prominence that program had prior to then, yes?

Kelsey is a great hype guy but cannot win big games. Never has.

It wasn’t just the two seasons under Payne, the last two under Chris Mack were disasters as well. And before Kelsey arrived at Louisville he coached at Winthrop and Charleston, what big games were you expecting him to win?

A single win in five NCAA Tournament appearances would’ve given him at least a smidge of street cred.

Chris Mack’s final half season was a disaster then he resigned. He went 13-7 in 2020-21 and his two full seasons before that went 20-14 and 24-7, beating #4 Michigan, #9 Michigan St, winning at #3 Duke, and handing Roy Williams the worst home loss of his career. Plus had his team ranked #1 for two weeks. To compare Mack to Payne is laughable.

Kelsey is 5-11 vs top 25 teams in two seasons. 5-12 after today.

Who was comparing the two? I was simply pointing out that in the four years before Kelsey took over, the program was nowhere near the level Louisville should be at. The numbers back that up. Payne was an awful head coach, and Mack got off to a good start but regressed. So Kelsey took over a bad program and has made them competitive in the span of two years, pretty good for a “glorified high school coach.”

Dusty May took over a Michigan program with the exact same record the year before (8-24) and look where they are in year two.

Kelsey will get owned by Izzo today.

She’s terrible. Charles called her out for referring to Mich State as “Michigan” multiple times already. Where is Candace Parker?

Isn’t she also the person who earlier in the week said Miami Ohio was “hot” and going to easily beat Tennessee? I know one of the CBS analysts on that panel said it.
