NCAA probing Tennessee basketball program

If it involves a player at UT, it's real simple. They'll do what they did to Renardo Sidney. Give us the records or we'll declare you ineligible.

I see. I suppose that could be why Selby has yet to be cleared.

Well, after all the conjecture, if BP and/or staff used throw aways and were dumb enough to get caught, we'll just have to gut out the punishment. Until there is some official statement from the NCAA about a finding of guilt and a punishment prescribed I'm not going to worry about it. There will be plenty of time to worry after a finding has come down from the mountain. There's also the possibility that nothing will ever come from it. Rumors are are just that. I find it hard to believe the gals at the NCAA have a better record tracing throw away phones than the FBI does, which isn't very good. Oh, and Hat, just because a call comes from a certain area code doesn't mean squat. Heck it could have come from you trying to get Bruce into trouble.

Yeah, use that kind of defense with the 'AA. "How do you know it was us? I'm sure a kid who had never set foot in Knoxville prior to his official visit here was getting all kinds of calls from there." That'll work.

well, I take it with a grain of salt. they were looking into a number of schools. but of course the UT story gets written up all over ESPN. The same thing happened in football, and an almost identical story was put on ESPN about that. ESPN "looking into" Tennessee football program. Yet no Letter of Inquiry yet. So we will just have to wait and see. These things can drag on.

I noticed at the end of Brice's writeup that it says Tennessee has now instituted a new compliance system that monitors the number of calls made to recruits on University phones. He also says Tony Jones was interviewed for several hours.

The fact that they have put in this new system seems to me to be an admission of guilt by the program. It also seems that Tony Jones seems to be at the center of this; if there's something to this, Tony Jones needs to be fired immediately.

Yes they can drag on for years and if you let it disturb you it can make you go crazy. Of course Hat would love for it all to be true and not only that Bruce loses his job but also gets 25 to life in the big house. Several years ago there was a story about tutors and academic cheating on the football team. If I remember correctly nothing much ever came of that. So, just because there's a preliminary investigation doesn't necessarily mean there will be a finding of guilt. I'm not saying there won't be said finding, but if it happens there will be plenty of time to worry then.

UCONN hasn't even filed their response to the Letter of Inquiry yet. Thus, the 'AA hasn't ruled on their infractions yet.

Not near as hard to prove as you think when you can trace where the phone was sold. You think the 'AA is going to believe a story that a bunch of calls from the 865 area code to a kid from, for example, suburban New York City came from anyone other than the coaching staff?

UConn filed by the Tuesday deadline this week. Several binders of info...poor hat, I thought he was friends with Calhoun. Guess he has not been following things that closely.

This investigation will turn out to be a whole lotta nothing...

Protected tweets make phone texts unnecessary anyway.

Burner phones were awesome on the Wire, but unless you give a recruit a burner as well, there is a record of what you sent. Giving a recruit a burner phone and having them toss it is pretty legit...

I am going to start texting Adonis Thomas from a burner phone saying

"Please please please be a Tiger...Yours very truly, Coach Pastner."

Probably just too busy questioning Andy Staples' journalistic integrity to actually do his job.

He's got an article up now, and it basically just plagiarizes Low's article while pretending he's got a "source that's speaking on condition of anonymity."

In case you guys don't remember. Hat's the one Forbes called out about pretending to be an insider. I wouldn't believe a word he says.

Well, this has been an unpleasant development tonight. I'll wait to see how it plays out. Usually, these things look devastating initially and then slowly lessen in damage and importance. Sometimes, they linger and you get USC, but more often the big scandals fizzle out. I hope that happens here.

Over on the other board, a poster with good cred says his AAU buddy tells him that Cal is 100% behind this and wants to crush Pearl and UT in the worst way. Who knows at this point. I kind of have a hard time seeing this thing come to hurt us too much, although I could see Jones or someone offered as a sacrificial lamb.

Link to where Hat claimed to be an insider, or to have any sort of connection to the UT staff?

Link to hatvol posting on the KNS sites (which is where the guy Forbes was referring to was posting)?

No links will come, because they don't exist.

If it is that easy to prove than what is purpose of buying a throw away phone. Couldn't he be calling a random girl he met on a visit (not hostess) with a throw away phone. I don't think thats enough to prove anything.
