NCAA probing Tennessee basketball program

Ive never gotten that from him. Mostly they were all anti-semetics I assume, just mad bc our school is able to be successful (for the most part) in multiple sports instead of just one.
So disliking Pearl makes one an anti Semite? That is some solid lawgator logic there.

And you are now doing your best Mel Gibson impersonation for questioning that logic.

Not sure how a coach that got a clean bill of ethical health would be a 10. That aside, this new basketball task force is making it a focus to hammer intentional rules violations. Can't imagine there are many things more intentional than buying throwaway phones to hide illegal contacts. If true, it's a 9. The only things worse would be outright payment of players or coordinated academic fraud.

Do you really think a coach who reported other schools for cheating would be stupid enough to put himself in this type situation?

I kind of wondered this myself. Not that I think it would be impossible for Bruce to be involved (because it certainly is possible) but what are the chances this has to do more the actions of assistants?

And before anyone says it, I realize in the eyes of the NCAA it doesn't matter who does what, overall the program is at fault. As a CBP fan however, it would just make me feel better to know that he wasn't involved. And yes, more importantly, be dumb enough to cheat after all the crap that went down early in his career.

Most are bending the rules and then some. But if some of the accusations are true, then yes bruce is stupid and oblivious to reality.

If you are a basketball coach and you have assistants, especially your associate head coach, doing this without your knowledge then you deserve to be fired for gross negligence or lack of control.

My point was, I dont understand why so many posters on ESPN hate him.

And then I gave them a "reason" by calling them Anti-semenites... It was a joke bc it was the only reason I could understand ppl hating him so much, was maybe because they were ignorant racists....

Didn't mean to offend any of you Klux members by using the Anti-Semetic analogy... my bad, crawl back into your holler and resume hating...

It would appear that there are, indeed, some violations that have been committed by someone. The real issue is likely the extent of the illegal contacts. Sampson had almost 600 illegal contacts at Indiana. If it has been a routine practice, we are in serious trouble.

And if this comes out that way, then it shows a lack of control and monitoring of atheletic practices by our Atheletic Director... I dont like to jump on the fire Mike Hamilton wagon, but come on? How much are we gonna have to hear in the news about UT's something or other sports program being investigated by the NCAA. We are turning into the next USC, and it cant always be just the coache's fault, Mike Hamilton is their boss and at some point, all fingers will point at him.

If this is true Bruce is not "stupid". This is how you compete in the NCAA. Bottom line.

Yes, he is stupid if this is true. When you portray yourself as some sort of upholder of the rules and turn other people over for NCAA violations, you're not only stupid but an utter dumbass if you think people aren't going to be watching your every move.

I understand that, but that was not my question.

LawVol -

How many times do I have to ask you to not throw common sense into arguments around here?

Either -

a) Pearl knew and approved of it,

b) Pearl knew and disapproved it but turned his back to it and let it continue, or

c) He had no clue what his associate head coach was doing.

Any of the three categories requires nothing less that a pink slip.

I personally hope nothing comes of this. I'm just telling it like it is if something does.

I think Tennessee is basically admitting that one of those three occurred. Otherwise, they wouldn't have instituted this new Compliance System that monitors contacts with recruits. To me, that's saying "Yes, we broke the rules, but we're taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again."
