NC titles at more than 1 D1 school?

Saban is what got me to thinking about it. Really good coaches who have won titles and then for what ever reason went to another school. For what ever reason they just don't seem to be able to catch the same magic.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Look at the last 30 National Champions. How many of those coaches went anywhere else in the college ranks? Also, for those who did, look at the jobs they ended up taking. Schnellenberger and Erickson both left for the pros, then found themselves in less than ideal situations to win a National Title. The better question is, how many coaches with a national title at one school have ever taken over at another school with a trophy in the case.

That is why I said "for what ever reason". You may not want to admit it hate, but you do agree with me. :whistling:

It looks like Howard Jones got it at Yale in 1909 and USC in 1928. Pop Warner got one at Pitt in 1916 and and Stanford in 1926.

still looking

If your point is that guys have left schools after winning a National Championship, then failed to do so at another title level program, I don't agree at all.

I was just saying for what ever reason they left their school with a title. Whether it be for NFL gigs or what. It's surprising to me that is has not happened very often. One would think that a coach with a national title could get to a top notch school and win another. It just doesnt seem to happen very often for what ever reason.
And it's alright to agree with me every now and then. Show's your getting wiser. :)

Also you figure it takes you 5-10 years at least of coaching in college to win a NC. Than you figure it takes 3 or 4 years in the pros to get fired. By that point the chance of you being relatively young are pretty slim and IMO turning around programs is a young man's game. Spurrier is a great coach of course, but anyone who thinks he's putting in the hours he did when he was 40 is nuts.

Saban can do it. Erickson and Spurrier have to0 far a hill to climb IMO. Butch Davis has a shot because he is fairly young, but that's a 5 year project.
