There’s a major difference in landing a 250 pounder that tops out at 290 here and landing a guy that’s 280-290 and ends up pushing 320 by the time he leaves. We’ve landed a bunch of hybrid guys, but not a true DT
Is Eason a true DT?
He's 6'3 310

He was a LB

You're wanting a finished product fresh out of HS.
1) Don't want them to peak too early
2) You want to add muscle vs having baby fat.

Jon Allen that played with Alabama. Was Outland Trophy winner I believe. Best defensive player too I guess about 6 years ago? He was 6'4 ,300 at the NFL combine I believe? He was 6'4 245 lbs DE as a HS Senior.👍
You really need to trust Rodney Garner...

This ****in jabroni keeps yapping

If we recruited 300 pounders he would be pissed they aren’t 270 and fast and athletic and then if we recruited 330 he’d pretend the 300 pounders are superior

But yet every year our DL is legit. Like bro just email Rodney at this point idk!
And yet, many keep responding to him so he won't go away.

I have no idea what he said. I ignored him a long time ago. But I consistently see ignored text from him with responses from normal posters who are incredulous about whatever the little Chihuahua said.

Put. Him. On. Ignore. These types will go away eventually and the board will be less cluttered.

With scholarships going to 105 (assume 103 for Tennessee with the NCAA sanctions), might as well take as many studs as you can get. Numbers will not be an issue.

Guys don’t typically come out of HS weighing that much and it be good weight.

Rodney Garner is the biggest reason we got out of irrelevance and back into contention. Prob even more so than Heup. You’re quite obviously a cheap troll, otherwise who would criticize the best coach on staff for his recruiting.
Why do we respond to a known troll? Constantly giving him what he wants..

People don't put the poster in question on Ignore because they like the banter back and forth. Especially the Super Fans...

I don’t keep up with who is a troll and who isn’t. I try to give ppl the benefit of the doubt and engage in good faith these days. But he gave himself away with that outrageous crap. Still, if I feel compelled to respond to him, I shall, and anyone else can use this site how they see fit. (that last part isn’t directed at you)

You can if you’re doing it at the expense of your interior DL. We need to start signing some 6’4 300 pounders that are top 100 players. Georgia showed with Carter, Davis, and Wyatt during their championship runs that you can also rush the passer with a DT as well
Easier said than done

I’m talking about landing some 300+ pound DTs that are ranked at the top 10 in their position. Not top 10 guys that are 3 techs or 270 pounds. We need a true replacement for Omari Thomas and this staff has yet to land one
Not sure if you are as dumb looking in real life as you are on here. But Jalen Carter 6’2 250lb SDE out of Apoka HS. Jordan Davis was a 3-star rated in the 700’s out of high school. Wyatt another DT from them a 3-star that wasn’t even smart enough to make it into college after committing to UGA and had to go JUCO to be elig. Travon Walker was 270 when he entered at UGA but stayed at DE instead of moving to DT. Zion Logue was a 3 star out of TN for them 6’6 260 when he entered UGA, plays at 315 now got drafted last year. So no, we don’t need 300lb monsters coming straight from high school because almost no other school does that for their DT’s.

Got two different edge positions with LEO and the strong end. Both have very different body types (i.e Tyre West type or Kellen Lindstrom type vs James Pearce Jr.)
Makes sense.

Seeing as I don’t keep up as much anymore, I have trouble figuring out where all these pieces will play. I do love that we are stockpiling guys at the WR and Edge positions.

I guess now, I’ve become more of a worry wort with some kids not finding the field.

If you didn’t worry about that, you’d worry we didn’t have enough depth lol

If you were a Tennessee fan and not a Dawg fan, you would understand that we run different systems and we prefer our DTs to be lean and quick twitch. Y’all run a 3-4 and we do not.

Everyone worried that we don’t have 350 pound tackles should remember those big boys were recruited by Cornbread. He ran a different defense. We now run a 4-2-5 so we don’t utilize a nose tackle. With a 4 man front the tackles can be smaller and quicker.

garner really loves twitchy DL not these 350lb slow ass DTs that cant move at all.....esp in this modern era of football.

I personally prefer that style of DL myself, however, I find it amusing that this has been a swinging pendulum of debate going back to at least Dooley and his hire of Sunseri and subsequent switch to a 3-4. Big versus athletic DL, over and over between the coaching changes.

Side Note: The most success we've had since 2010 have had the "smaller" DL compared to our lowest points (Sunseri, Pruitt).

Tennessee is set up to have a massive recruiting weekend with all kinds of 2027 and 2028 studs in town. Virginia Tech commit Andrew Rogers is coming to town and the Vols certainly have his ear. He was all about the Vols before he committed but when he was adamant about visits this fall, Tennessee didn’t push real hard. The slow start for Tech certainly feels like the Vols could be ripe to pick him up at some point.
