NBA Playoffs Thread

Bill Simmons was talking about how close Ainge was to never being relevant as a GM. I guess he wanted Robert Swift, but the Sonics took him. If that hadn't happened, they wouldn't have had Jefferson to trade for Garnett. He had traded some popular players and failed, so his days were numbered until he pulled that trade off.

Ainge also wanted to trade a Brooklyn pick for Justice Winslow. But his drafting the last four years has been nearly flawless.

Actually they traded jrue holiday who was way worth more in clearing his salary off the books, and elfrid peyton for Dario Saric, nerlens Noel, and a another first round pick.... they got two 20 year olds by trading Kevin Love and sucking bad enough to get the 1st pick in the draft.... who cares if they ranked or not if the team still sucked?

And not once did Minny ever try to lose intentionality which is why Hinkie got bounced by Silver. There’s a difference in losing bc you’re young inexperienced and losing bc you’re not trying

Silver should not interfere with team business.

I'm pretty sure he did that to get interest in his dumb new show that's hurting for ratings. There's no way he can actually believe that.

I like his show. Beadle, Jalen, and he are all sane and don't just throw out stupid hot takes all day and yell.

He is the king of the overyhyped segue, tho.

Certainly ridiculous to call it the greatest rivalry in the history of sports but it is pretty cool that we’re seeing something that’s basically never happened before.

I know a lot of people are tired of seeing the same two teams but, for me personally, it’s the matchup that’s exites me the most. So I haven’t tired of it yet.

Ewing would have no chance in today's NBA. He was too slow.

Shaq would also be too sliw, but he's good enough at other things to still play great ball.

Look at it this way...why did big men absolutely dominate college and then stopped and they haven't dominated for 30 years? It's because the players adapted to the 19' 3-point line and diminished the value of a star pivot. The NBA has finally caught up to college and they've adapted to the 23' 3-point line.

Ewing wouldn't even get playing time in those conference finals we just watched.

Lol. Ewing and Shaq were bothe better defensively in the middle than anyone in quite a long time. Their job was to protect the rim. Thats what made those eras so much more difficult. Players had to deal with 7' monsters once they beat their first guy. Now, you beat your guy and there are no big men to deal with.

Both guys would be dominate in todays league. Who is going to box them out? They would be leading the league in blocks and rebounds easily. Plus, given their size, very few would be able to defend them.

Bottom line is the game has changed. Zone D, long rebounds, and playing the high pick n roll on both sides of the floor means you need leaner, faster, and better conditioned big men with high motors.

It doesn't matter how well you defend the paint if you have to guard Horford, Embiid, Davis, KAT, etc. at the 3 pt line.

Ewing would at least get 28 MPG in today's NBA and put up 18-10 at least in that amount of time. J Val gets 13-9 in 23MPG and Ewing is more skilled than him. Same for Gortat before this year, he'd be at least a slightly better Whiteside. I say that as a Ewing hater. Also Orlando Shaq would murder people, that Shaq was very very mobile.

I think Green on Durant will be a very interesting matchup.

Also, I am not sure who guards LeBron with Iggy out. Surely it won't be the rookie. I am not sure how Durant would fair for an entire game either.

I hate the cupcake, but he's going to eat Green alive. And if he can refocus himself, he can hang with LBJ on, he was great on D in the playoffs last year. Excuse while I go shank myself.

Ewing also played in an era of no defensive 3 seconds

I have no problem with Shaq. Ewing would play better paint D than Gortat but I think Gortat has a better motor and he might be the best screener in the NBA.

Marc Gasol is a sloth and does just fine BTW.

I like Gasol, JV, and these big guys in the regular season. You know I love Gobert...but when you get to the playoffs and see the elite teams these guys run into problems. In 5 years every roster might look more like the Rockets/Warriors/Celtics. Gobert will be in real trouble (and he'll also be old).
