NBA Playoffs Thread

If you’re drafting that player as a potential trade chip with the #3 pick then you shouldn’t be drafting that player to begin with. And he still traded Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noel. That’s a bad play. He also blew the MCW pick.

So yes he can manage a salary cap and get assets but he showed little drafting acumen his time there. And I’m still putting an asterisk on Embiid because he could fall apart at any point.

Also Colangelo drafted Simmons, not Hinkie

Ben Simmons was the main guy most of the moves were made for.... its the first pick, Hinkie was drafting him..... keeping Jrue is very short sighted and why philly sucked for years.... he has not performed up to 25-26 million a year the past four years.... The plan was to get a couple of superstars or more and have the salary to add high end free agents if desired too..... the plan worked... we have 2 and possible a 3 Star and tons of salary cap to manage the team.... we are set up for years to come.... he made mistakes and you may not agree with the methods but you can’t argue that he didn’t pull it off.... plus we still have a top 10 pick this season thanks to Hinkie!

We don’t know if he drafts Simmons, this is the same guy who drafted Okafor over Porzingis. He could have drafted Ingram.

And again he traded Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noel that’s a bad trade bc Noel sucks. You can trade Holiday. But then you take Noel with the pick that negates the trade you got no value back for him.

Also, he didn’t pull it off. Is he part of the 76ers organization right now?

We got something better than nerlens Noel..... we got 25 mill in salary cap for jrue holiday...our management group helped force Hinkie out bc of thepressure being applied by David silver hating the tanking plan that the sixers were incorporating.... There are very very few sixer fans that wouldn’t bring Hinkie back and get rid of Colangelo tonight.... He is celebrated and a hero in Philly..... I’m a huge fan.

You know how Sam Hinkie doesn’t get forced out of his job???

If he drafts better players.

Yep he did. He probably would have been much better in the 80's and 90's, quick centers or centers that can shoot to 15 feet are bad news for him, as he just wants to hang around the rim and get blocks.

Ben Wallace without the toughness and effort?

And the Philly story is all great as long as Embiid stays healthy...because unfortunately that could end at any point.

Sam Presti did the exact same thing as Hinkie. Clear a **** ton of cap space and get top five picks. It’s not like it’s some genius concept never before invented. Presti could actually draft correctly.

Could this be Ginóbili's last game? Will Curry come back for the 1st game of round 2? Questions for anyone commenting on the game. Assuming the Warriors win of course.

Have to assume it is for Ginobili, but I thought that last year too.

Curry looks good in all of those pregame workout videos they keep showing.

Pop might convince Ginóblil to come back, if Pop comes back. Hard to say given the state of things. You can't blame Pop if he calls it a career. He's got nothing to prove.

Can't say on Curry. He's been protected two playoffs in a row now.

True about Curry. May just depend on if they lose an early game at home in the next series.

Will be an interesting off season in San Antonio for sure.

I was actually wondering about Pop myself. He has nothing to prove. His three big stars are no more. Kawhi might leave now. His wife just died. It might be time.

I think Kerr is holding Steph back. It's a trick he learned from Pop. I bet Curry is in uniform for game 1 vs the Pelicans. He may not may not play. But, Curry will be in uniform.

My thoughts exactly. I can't imagine that anyone in Pop's position would keep going.

But, it would be just like him to get Leonard back and reload in the face of adversity.

I can't call it.

Him and Parker are only hurting the team at this point, aside from the random game every 20 games. The Spurs need them to retire so the can get some new blood in and (if he stays) let Pop start developing them.

I hate to say that cause I feel like Manu is one of the most selfless players in history. He could have, IMO, went somewhere else and been a perennial all-star and been a top 5 paid SG. Instead he played his role and won a bunch of rings, so I get the loyalty but it's time to retire.

Pop isn't going to develop a team from the ground up. Even the GOAT is mortal. Ginòbili and Parker still have a role to play. Hopefully Leonard will get with the program.

It will be difficult. I don't see free agents trying to join the Spurs like they have the last few years. I guess they'll have to hope a few young guys step up and that they can get value for Kawhi (if they trade him). I don't know if Lamarcus will stay either. I just can't see Pop trying to do a complete rebuild though.

Isn’t Sam presti considered one of the top GM’s in the league. Yes Sam could have drafted better but his hands were tied with the okafor pick..... I’m very happy with the product he helped philly obtain and 100% bought into his plan.

Oh I know that, but they need to start looking forward at those positions. Which I think D Murray has potential to be really good, he reminds me of a younger Russ a bit. Pretty aggressive, good at getting to the rim, great rebounder, still learning how to play PG though.

It's weird to say this, but at this point, Brad Stevens might be the best X's and O's coach in the NBA. Pop is the best overall (scouting, personnel assignments, X's and O's) of the modern era, IMO, but Stevens is so smart.

I mean for that 3 year stretch he was the greatest drafter of all time. Lol KD, Russ, Serge, and Harden is insane.
