I've watched Harden a lot. I think the effort is there. I've seen Westbrook be lazy too. Everybody has their moments. Neither one of them is shut-down on the ball (very few are), but they are both great help defenders.

Harden owned a good offensive big in a clutch moment last night, 1-on-1. I watch the games.

Russ 4.8 def rebs, 1.8 stls, 0.1 blocks, 1.8-2.1 steals-fouls

Harden 3.8 d rebs, 1.4 stls, 0.5 blocks, 1.4-2.4 steals-fouls

My eye test and your numbers say Russ is superior defensively.

Lol @ owned a guy in a clutch moment as a reference to him being a great defender.

Wait you prefer per 36...

Russ 5.3 def rebs, 2 stls, 0.1 blocks, 2-2.3 steals-pf

Harden 3.6 def rebs, 1.3 stls, 0.5 blocks, 1.3-2.2 steals-pf

It just got worse. Lol

You're doing it wrong.

1. Look at total rebounds, not defensive. Different players have different roles (break as soon as shot goes up). For defensive prowess I look at total rebounds because it explains that the player is physical, aware, and aggressive.

2. You're supposed to look at their per minute productivity.

3. PGs are supposed to have the most steals because they have more opportunity. You have to look at how they compare to the average player at their position. Just like SGs are supposed to have more blocks than PGs.

Harden over average SG per 48

+0.7 rp +0.2 bp +0.5 sp -0.4 fp

Westbrook

+2.7 rp +0.0 bp +0.6 sp -0.3 fp

You are right that Westbrook is a better defender. It's only slightly, though.

2 days and I get a lousy spin job and OFFENSIVE rebounds somehow are a part of a players DEFENSIVE abilities?

I am disappoint.

You also once said that Marvin Williams's rebounding numbers indicated that he was a top 50 player in the NBA. Can I assume that now that you've had the pleasure of watching him play for two years for your own team that you no longer feel that way?

Wait what? Marvin Williams was a top 50 player at one point? Bwhahaha

Go have a look at about pages 2 and 3 of the Hawks thread. The Huff apparently thought the Jazz were getting a steal.

Holy ****, that is funny. I thought the Korver thing was bad, Williams is a bum at least Korver can play.

Edit: bum is a little harsh. Lol

"Stats>>>eyeballs" - Huff

I'm a believer that stats >>> eyeballs in baseball, which is a static, largely station-to-station game that's mostly a long series of one-on-one confrontations. Advanced stats in other team sports are useful, but only if A) you don't try to get too granular about it and B) you have a healthy skepticism about them and constantly compare them to what you're seeing with your eyes. I'm 100 percent confident that Marvin Williams has never been a meaningfully above average NBA player, much less top 50.

I like using stats to help, but when you tell me that Korver is top 25, Williams is top 50, and Tyson Chandler is top 5, I'm gonna believe you have no idea what you are talking about.
