*****NATIONAL SIGNING DAY on VolNation

Composite is good if it's done by an independent group unaffiliated with one of the recruiting services and is just a straight up average. I'm not sure that is true though.

As far as I know they balance it out between the major services. At least that's what people who know have told me.

edit: This is from the actual 247 site...

-All major media services share an equal percentage in the 247Composite Rating.

-The composite index equally weights this percentage among the services that participate in a ranking for that specific prospect.

-A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect. A full strength meter indicates the prospect has been ranked by all industry services participating in the composite.

-All industry networks have a different philosophy on number of "stars" distributed with each class. The 247Composite Rating assigns stars based on an approximate average distribution of stars from the industry.

-The 247Composite will update as major media outlets update their prospect rankings throughout the recruiting cycle.

To piggy back of this just a tad, all of these services and recruiting evaluators typically only take pure physical talent they see visually into consideration. You may have a 5 star who is a pure athlete, but dosesn't take football IQ into consideration.

Maybe I'm not making myself clear.
I guess my point is the same service would come up with a different rating with the possibility of a different evaluation. Again using ESPN, how much difference is there in talent between a 79 and 80. Is the 80 that much better than the 79? Yeah because you get another star?

If I'm the one doing the evaluation, how hard do I push for a kid or do I cave in to someone else.

Here is a quote from ESPN's national recruiting director Tom Luginbill

Don't get me wrong, I think we should only have the best players, the more 4 and 5 stars the better. I just think there is a lot of difference between the services now.

UT's best recruit is the #1 player overall on ESPN, #5 on 247, #29 on Scout and #49 on Rivals. Just a big range between them.

Guys sitting the bench who when called upon after our starters get hurt will perform terribly. See this year.

I understand the concept of depth on a football roster, I'm just not sure what context his statement is related to.
