I have a weird love/hate relationship with K. He's the best, but I kinda hate K as an Xs and Os guy. I think he has 5 championships because he's had the best players for the last 30 years. That all goes to his credit as a recruiter and program builder, but I can't stand his in-game coaching. He just lets his guys out-talent you.
Too much hyperbole on my part, but Iclarified my position and was complimentary about K on defense. Of course he can coach, but Xs and Os aren't what make him elite. It's talent. It's the fact that he's had more All Americans than anyone, and it's not even close.
You can make an argument that he is the best Xs and Os guy, and there is no way to really say whether he is or he isn't, but objectively speaking, he has by far the most talent to work with. It's not even close. One might even question why he hasn't won more.
I'm tenacious? Dude, you came at me out of nowhere and I explained my position and told you we actually agreed and then you went back and found something to disagree with me on.
Is Nolan Smith not a natural PG? Is it inaccurate to include him as PG of a national championship team?
And I think the whole point of the guy who brought up Scheyer was that Scheyer sucked and had to play out of position...but Scheyer was good. He beat out Nolan Smith who was a good, natural PG. It's not like K was winning a title with Steven Pearl running point because that's all he had.
Nolan Smith was not an elite CBB point guard.
So I don't really post much (never) but being someone who follows Duke basketball, I'd have to disagree. In 2010-11, when Smith spent most of the year as a PG with Kyrie Irving hurt, he finished as a Consensus 1st Team All-American and a Naismith/Wooden Award Finalist. I think most people would consider that elite.
Also, it is silly to compare Smith and Jones freshman year's because they were in completely different scenarios. Smith entered a team with already 3 established guards while Jones joined a team with the only returning point guard being Quinn Cook. So its almost like comparing apples to oranges.
But then again, thats just my opinion.
Yea, I hate duke too. I didn't think they'd win it--not with three freshman starters. This was like Connecticut's championship--not out of nowhere, but surprising.
Wisconsin tonight played like our women's team--scared. If you aren't aggressive and play to win, the other team will. When the had a six point lead, Duke started playing more aggressively--as they had to--and Wisconsin just wilted, strangely.
WTF.
First of all, I didn't compare him to anyone. The guy said Scheyer was running point. Nolan Smith was.
Second, I've never heard of a guy who averaged 20 and 5 in the ACC referred to as serviceable.
A poor example of what? I don't know what your point is, but you wandered into my discussion with someone else and you seem to be confused about what's being said.
You think a Senior who averaged 20 and 5 is a distant 4th behind a Freshman who averaged 11 and 5?

IDK why people are saying Smith isn't a natural PG. He's 6' 2", he guarded the opposing PG, he had a good handle, and he averaged 5+ apg* when he was the designated PG.
*5 apg may not sound like a lot, but that will put you in the top 40 of the entire NCAA
We're telling you he didn't play it in 2009-10 during their title run not that he never played it. Guess CL5 was a natural PG too cause he was 6'2?
I get that, but some people are saying he's a natural 2, not a 1. I completely disagree.
Scheyer was not a natural 1, but he was damn good at it, offensively speaking. Such a good a:to ratio. Smith was score first, but he was still a natural 1.

I didn't say he was a natural 2. I said they ran the team through Singler. So Smith put up way more shots and acted more like a two who simply brought the ball up the floor
If you didn't say it, then I wasn't talking about you.
It is weird that you say they ran the offense through Singler, though. Smith had more points and 3x as many assists.
