Why hasn't the oppression hit other minorities similarly, like Asians or India for example. Are the Democrat leaders targeting only certain people of color?
I'm not a Republican or Democrat, at one time I would have considered myself Republican but came to understand they don't truly represent my thoughts on politics, that and they have melded in with Democrats and vice versa.I'm not disputing that democratic policies have been bad. I just dispute that AA's have been declining. But it's not just democratic policies. Maybe because the Asians weren't slaves for 2 centuries, or whatever. The war on drugs targets urban areas and blacks tend to live there. I'm sure there are lots of reasons. Democratic policies have been bad for blacks, but so have Republican policies.
Why would that matter, only to ones psyche perhaps? None of them were slaves or even the children of slaves. Should they seek better opportunities elsewhere in the world?Maybe because they weren't enslaved in this country?

But it cannot be overlooked that these areas are Democrat bastions, impenetrable by Republicans yet they have fared no better over the last 30 to 40 years.
The war on drugs was started by Republicans. The war on drugs was largely ramped up by Republicans. The war on drugs has wreaked havoc on these Democrat bastions. You may not consider yourself a Republican, but if you're calling out dems only instead of calling out both parties (or just the bad policies), then you're biased.
Corruption, that's why, complicit and direct political corruption. And, on both sides.
I would say the war on drugs is inherently problematic and doesn't require corruption to be a net negative or to target urban areas. It's a natural result. This suppression of freedom is totally unjust and un-American, and the punishments do not fit the crimes. It's a disaster from the get-go, regardless of how it's carried out.
All area's, not just urban. But, it is the first and most important component to the drug trade. Money moves, and power sways. Take away the money, take away the corruption, and the accessibility to drugs plummets.
The government, not just in terms of whatever they actually have done to combat drugs, has been the one constant that has allowed the drug markets to spread. The government is responsible for the continuance of the problem, not trying to fix it.
This is the mistaken belief that if all drugs were legalized, gangs, criminal activity related to drugs and overdoses would decline. This is 100% a fallacyAll area's, not just urban. I have zero problems with users who choose that life as long as they keep it to themselves at home but you can’t have people on the streets high from whatever drug they are on. You certainly can’t have people selling or distributing certain drugs like heroin or meth. I don’t know if prison is the answer but something has to be done

Why not?
Something has to be done, but it doesn't have to be done by the government. And if it is done by the government, it should be treatment-based actions, instead of prevention-based. Prohibition doesn't work.
They would still sell cheaper more dangerous versions of drugs and would still fight over their territories.Let's say drug use doesn't decline, so what? I don't think it would increase as long as employers are allowed to set their own drug testing/use policies.
As for the gangs, where other than drugs could they get the money to finance their activities?
Because they are a danger to themselves and others while under the influence and certain drugs cause severe hallucinations which can be very dangerous

I don't care about the employer issue, and i don't care what private citizens do in their homes using drugs. What i care about is the huge impact it would have on society in terms of thefts/child abuse/DUI traffic deaths/danger of them hurting themselves and others while seeing things and the impact of medical/hospital/emergency services. During the opioid crisis, EMS/police/Fire answer on average between 20-50 calls A DAY just in Knoxville for ODs and drug related patients. Imagine that x1000 and the cost of healthcare for these people would be astronomical
not just that....there were a lot of factors that led up to it. Most persons with addictive personalities/genes got hooked no matter what drug they took (weed, pills, whatever)The vast majority of opioid addicts started with legal prescriptions. The opioid crisis was government made with their focus on pain.
If somebody is behaving disorderly, we have laws for that. You can't tell me I can't go downtown and have a beer because somebody else had too many beers and threw a chair at somebody. Punish the person that throws the chair and leave it at that. This is how America is supposed to work. We're supposed to be free at least up until the point that we cause harm to somebody else.
