Smart move IMO. Ford is cutting back and GM is in bankruptcy, nascars need other carmakers cash in the sport.

Once Toyota got in wasn't it just a matter of time.... Who do y'all see jumping ship to go to Honda or someone else? Will it bring in new ownership like Red Bull?

This isn't a great idea, they need to be selective with who they choose. Cause if they get too much foreign influence, it'll be CART part deux.

Roger Penske will be first in line for Honda.

What manufacturer did Petty use at Indy? It was mentioned earlier this year that they might switch to Toyota next year.

I could see a Nissan Maxima or Honda Accord in Nascar. Rick Hendrick owns a lot of Honda dealers but I couldn't imagine him leaving Chevrolet.

The Dodge teams would seem the most likely to be looking to change. How much Chevy cuts will have an affect on the lower funded teams. A lot like Toyota at first - no major teams, possibly a new team ala M. Waltrip.

As to should there be more manufacturers, and should they be foreign marques? Why not, if the domestic guys are pulling back, and make it a more competitive field. Let them prove who is best.

If Nissan is interested, I wonder if they would go the Truck division first like Toyota did? If the Trucks are still around.

Honda will be the next manufacturer in--I think. I believe NASCAR will do whats best for NASCAR. That being said I think they have seen their best days, letting "foreign" manufacturers in IS NOT the answer to the decreasing fanbase. I think racing is a grass roots sport and they have went away from that fanbase. So in other words--they made their bed let them sleep in it.

Nascar didn't make this bed, GM, Chrysler and Ford did by building cars nobody wanted and letting the foreign automakers take over here in the US. Would you rather Nascar sit on it's rear with automakers that are all headed for dead ends?

I think he meant that they were getting away from their roots for the sake of gaining fickle stick and ball fans. Like the Chase, who really likes it?

i don't think they'd be bringing in foreign manufacturers to gain a new fan base. they would bring them in to continue support to their series.

I think they are worried about their ratings. (TV ratings dont have anything to do with the economy being slow so they should be worried.) I also think that if the "Big 3" become the minority in the NASCAR series they better get accustomed to seeing half full bleachers. I'm sure Honda, BMW or whoever else comes will fill up the luxury boxes and hospitality tents. But are those really the people that will make or break NASCAR? I dont think so.

To be fair--If Honda, or Volvo or any other manufacturer wants in and meets the requirements they should be let in. But if GM, Ford and Dodge are cutting back on support, and the new guys are shoveling money in...well you know whats gonna happen. Thats just my opinion.

It is all about the money...they will end up letting several foreign manufacturers in, JMO

That would suck but they could very well be gone soon.

Manufactuer bragging rights left Nascar a long time ago. These cars are so far from stock and they're not even close to anything sitting on a car lot. The COT just drove the wedge even that much further in the car on the sales lot and the one on the track. So who really cares what manufactuer joins Nascar? We're talking about allowing said company to put a vinyl decal of model name on front, a vinyl emblem on the hood and some fake vinyl tail lights on the rear of Nascar's box.

The engines might be of said brand but the displacement is 358 cu inch pushrod V8 with a carburetor. No one runs anything like that in a new car.
