Honda will be the next manufacturer in--I think. I believe NASCAR will do whats best for NASCAR. That being said I think they have seen their best days, letting "foreign" manufacturers in IS NOT the answer to the decreasing fanbase. I think racing is a grass roots sport and they have went away from that fanbase. So in other words--they made their bed let them sleep in it.
Nascar didn't make this bed, GM, Chrysler and Ford did by building cars nobody wanted and letting the foreign automakers take over here in the US. Would you rather Nascar sit on it's rear with automakers that are all headed for dead ends?

i don't think they'd be bringing in foreign manufacturers to gain a new fan base. they would bring them in to continue support to their series.
The Dodge teams would seem the most likely to be looking to change. How much Chevy cuts will have an affect on the lower funded teams. A lot like Toyota at first - no major teams, possibly a new team ala M. Waltrip.
As to should there be more manufacturers, and should they be foreign marques? Why not, if the domestic guys are pulling back, and make it a more competitive field. Let them prove who is best.
If Nissan is interested, I wonder if they would go the Truck division first like Toyota did? If the Trucks are still around.
