Mississippi State's strength coach (Matt Balis) was a finalist for S@C coach of the year this year.
If our facilities don't blow theirs out of the water and we can't offer more money then somethings up.

This is not a big deal. We get excited for every S&C Coach that comes around. Ausumsuses, Black Fury, and now the friend of the Lone Survivor himself. It's also kind of gay. Just saying.

A few years ago we quit in the swamp because we were not conditioned enough, but its not a big deal right?

I really don't think so.

People have already stated before - the S&C coach is the only one able to work out with these guys during the off periods after spring ball and during the early summer. It's a big deal - and it also can affect recruiting. Plus - you know - the actual strength, quickness, and durability is a pretty pivotal part too.

Thank God, we got rid of Johnny Long. Then Kiffin hired the guy from South Carolina, then he was replaced by Ausuma. Then when Kiffin left, we brought in Wiley. Now Wiley must be replaced.
So a player, who was a freshman in 2008, would end up having at least 5 S & C coaches while at U.T.

Let me expand on this. I don't know anything about any S&C coaches' resumes. I do know, however, that every S&C coach that has been here since Kiffin has gotten rave reviews. Which tells me, whoever we hire, we're probably gonna be happy about it, be disappointed when they end up leaving, and be none the wiser thereafter.

Another example. Someone compared our previous strength coach to Stanford's current one. Our guy may have been 10 times better...but Stanford just won a BCS bowl, absolutely pounding VT in a gritty, let's lift weights fashion.

But yes, I will agree that S&C is very important. But I would disagree who we pick to make our players lift would make or break the program (which is what is what I consider important).

All I'm saying is if you had candidate X and candidate Y, you would probably be none the wiser how good he was until he left and people either started talking **** about them, or saying good things. With a head coach or coordinator, you can see the product on the field. With a S&C coach it's like, cool this player lifted lots of weights. And they're in such great shape. No one else can do this? Do we have any idea? Who cares, not important.
