Basically it shows a sign of growing more mature. No one is opposed to your religious beliefs...as long as you believe in something. I think this staff is 100% more professionally mature than the previous staff. Also as in the comments, they are 100% better prepared week in and week out. Having a little faith is good for you.

I would have a problem only if religious activities were mandatory for the team. I do fool that a certain amount of community service should be mandatory for all of our players, though.

Many people who aren't particularly religious still feel comforted by the type of wholesome environment that typically surrounds faith-based functions. As long as there is no judgement for non-attendance this will be great for our team.

Good read and great to hear #7. I love the character that this team has shown. Coaches and players show each and every day that this is a "team" in every sense of the word. It's awesome to see the Vols as a team after the past several years. I don't care what the record is, CLK and staff has improved this team 110%--both on the field, and more importantly, off the field. Great to see.

i also want to mention that the families have come together for a time of prayer before each home game. as far as they can find out this is the first time that parents have started something like this on the major college level. word got out and now there are families doing this at five different major college programs.

man, it was incredible. i am so jealous of the people that get to experience that stuff every day.
at one point they gathered the team around and CDR got up on a ladder and just went off for 10min. He was heated about USClite and what beating them would mean to him, how much they hated Tennessee. He was rolling. Then JC got up there and talked about how Norwood was public enemy #1 and an AA. Reaves really surprised me, he was fired up.

Guys, I wont go into the details, but I was blessed to spend some time with a few of our players. I was completely blown away by the leadership these guys possess. Chris Walker leads the group, just a great kid that seems to really care about his teammates and embrace his role as a leader. He is very aware of the opportunity he has. Just a great kid and natural born leader. Comes from a fantastic family, his mother is a true woman of God. Eric Berry, didnt meet his dad, but was able to spend a couple of hours with his mom and grandmother. Great people, very humble, down to earth, and kind. Eric was as generous with his time as a I have ever seen from a guy in his position. Just a true class act all the way. Quentin Hancock's mother was another extremely kind and personable lady. Art Evans, Vald, and Gerald Williams were some of the other guys that just blew me away with their attitudes and the humility they possessed. I had an opportunity to spend about 15min with CMK. He was way bigger than I expected. Im 6ft 1in and he was noticeably taller than me. Just a super nice guy. CEG is the real deal. When you meet him, he just radiates honesty. He really impressed me.

I spent about an hour watching the half speed practice/walk through and here are my observations:

1) Coach O and CMK coach like its the 4th quarter of a tied NCG all the time. I would see CEO just chewing someone's butt off and then see CMK call the player over and build them back up.
2) The players adore CMK. I saw him stop them twice and say, "Let me tell you a story...". Every player was totally focused on what he had to say.
3) CLK just radiates arrogance, but in a way that says, "I know I will win because I am better prepared than you." He would stand in the middle of the field with his hands on his hips and smirk after a great play.
4) I was also surprised by CLK's presence. He commands respect. He is impressive.
5) Janzen Jackson is flat out fast. One of the fastest guys I have ever seen in person.
6) CMK coaches all out, all the time. The guy just seems genuine.
7) 15 players have given their lives to the Lord since the season started.
8) I heard one player say that he learned more in 2 weeks with this staff then all of last year.

I was around many of the players when i was a student 88-93 and they werent "character" guys. This team is overflowing with character guys. Just genuine, good natured guys who truly seem to care about one another.

thanks for the post
must be some good connections

I know it's hard to compare when you never got to see Fulmer's team from last year but I have to think that they've got this team fired up a lot more than they were last year.

LOL rjd! I was thinking the same thing about the bathroom breaks, wondering if it was a 6hr drive any other time. (Having been there twice myself I know what bathrooms mean to a pregnant woman!!)

Happiness is a choice, and non-Christians make the same choice daily.

And if you're a Christian, it means something to you to when you hear others have accepted Christ. There's no other way to explain it.

And last point, I'm impressed with the posters in this thread. It could easily have gotten ugly ugly, and you guys talked like adults, giving your opinions and discussing it.

For real, I'm done now.

I had the pleasure of living on the same floor at Chris Walker my sophomore year in Gibbs. You're exactly right about him. He's a genuine a guy as you'll ever come across and a great leader, always pulling pranks and making jokes with everyone. He made you feel welcome in that place, even as a non- 6'4 230 lb athlete. I moved off campus after that, and didn't see him at all last year, but I've run into him several times this year, and he still makes it a point to say hey and shake my hand. He is a talented, friendly guy who has a bright future in the league.

Sounds like what we see on the field, is what is really happening and we got a head coach and staff that know excatly what they are doing. GREAT WEEKEND REX!

Rex,
I appreciate this posting. This is first I have heard about the growing faith within the team. Please keep us posted if other opportunities like this come up for you.

For those who don't have faith, please be tolerant of us. We will do likewise and in addition, we'll say a pray on your behalf.
