My rant in favor of Adidas uniforms

I’ve been saying the same thing. It’s about NIL now. Personally I prefer the Nike uniforms as I think there templates look better. However, I prefer Adidas apparel.
I liked the Nike shoes better, but recently they can’t stop putting black on all of them. I have the Vol Pegasus shoes from 4 or so years ago and they’re perfect. Nike put cool subtleties like the power T and checkerboard in tasteful ways. Adidas never did that.

But then Nike couldn’t stop putting black or grey on them. Our colors are orange and white. Maybe Adidas will figure that out.

Its very simple. All things equal this will hurt us in recruiting because most people (including athletes) prefer Nike to all other athletic brands. That's why we're mad. Cause we know it'll hurt us in the long run regardless of what short term monetary gains the athletic department makes off this deal with an inferior brand.
It is your groups Kreskin imitation projecting recruiting losses LIKE IT IS A GIVEN that turns the more rational folks in Orange off.

It will take at least 2 full recruiting seasons to have a trend analysis. Then we can see how many big timers are on their NIL and how many that VISIT, see it all and wear some and talk to our team and let us KNOW it was ACTUALLY a factor not a perceived factor.

How can our national perception as a high profile target for them not be a plus? How can a publicized fact of one of the highest deals in the NCAA not be a plus? How can they not like having the design czars on campus? What other school has that documented status?

I find it hard to believe ALL the other factors get trumped by a lack of a misaligned comma. Especially if those with parallel lines make their life better, directly or indirectly. Pepsi vs Coke is real too,BUT…,,, I know they are young also BUT….

Like I said elsewhere, I hope our now announced partner signs Hiter real soon. A great early start on that trend line. Some other STILL targets too. Keys may not flip, but he obviously has no problem with Adidas.

Ever since rumors came out that UT was going back to Adidas, I've seen a lot of folks mad about the change. I mean I get it. Brand choices are subjective and we all have different tastes. Having said that, one talking point I keep seeing in these discussions about Adidas is how Adidas always had the wrong orange. And I'm sitting here looking at my screen thinking "what?!?" How are people so oblivious to history???? Adidas had the correct orange and Nike never has! It's not even remotely the same shade of orange. Look back at film of old games throughout the history of the program and the orange looked way more similar to our old Adidas uniforms than our current Nike gear. The Nike uniforms don't have that distinctive yellowish hue that true UT orange has. Criticize Adidas all you want for not being cool enough or trendy enough, but you just look like a fool when you say Adidas never got our uniform color right.

The Nike Orange is correct. The “yellowish” is just the way uniforms of the past looked under different lighting. That’s not an actual color for us lol

They were way too yellow at the bowl game against North Carolina.

I don't get why people are so obsessed with Nike anyway. It's not like it was 10-20 years ago; their brand has declined significantly. They've been overtaken by Hoka, Brooks, and several others in footwear. I don't think kids are obsessed with 'playing with the Nike swoosh' any more.

We obviously got a much better deal from Adidas and White was right to take it.
I 100% agree. Nike doesn’t carry the same sway as they did 10-15 years ago. I’ve found their shoes overpriced and cheaply made. I stopped wearing Nike shoes years ago and switched to Brooks and won’t go back.

Luckily we have an official color hex value we can look up and compare to. It’s #FF8200 and Nike got that right.
That Hex code is for graphics, digital, etc. Officially, it should be pantone 151 C for unifroms and apparel. Nike had as many misses as hits when it came to fan apparel. I haven't really looked at how close they got with uniform colors.

Are there examples of schools missing out on recruits solely for the reason that they didn't like the manufacturer of the uniform and gear?

Others have posted that in 2016 AJ Brown chose Ole Miss over Miss St because Miss St was an Adidas school and Ole Miss was Nike.

All things equal players will choose Nike over Adidas.

I don't want pre-madonna recruits who are slaves to fashion. I want dogs not dandies.

If you look good you feel good. If you feel good you play good. If you play good you get paid good.

That's been a saying by football players for generations. Looking good on the field is critical to playing well.

You’re insinuating that a 18 year old kid cares more about the swoosh on his jersey than the 0s in his bank account. This is one of the most ridiculous takes you’ve had here, and that’s saying something.

Did you miss the part about paying a tax? Yes money matters. But when the money is close that's when the team with better gear wins out. By signing with Adidas we'll have to overpay to get recruits. Because if the money is close they'll never pick us over a Nike school.

Nike makes good shoes. That’s it.

I hate their clothing and wear very little of it.

Adidas makes better shirts and pants in my opinion and shorts. I wear a lot of adidas clothing in the gym and rarely wear Nike.

We are not going to be a generic Adidas school, we are going to be a school in control of product design and development. So I will reject that you have a better handle on this than Danny White. All day, every day. Even if you continue to take redundancy and repackaging to a whole other level.

Let's not forger Nike gave us second rate treatment. We got no where near Florida, Georgia or Bama money or gear support. This was 1000% about getting a much better deal. I've heard per Sports Animal Knoxville (source) that Adidas wants to make the Tennessee Vols their #1 flagship team/brand.
We'll see. I feel like we heard similar things from Nike, back when we partnered with them 10 years ago. They were going to make us "the Oregon of the south" or some such nonsense. Let's see how much Adidas prioritizes us when their other major partners like Miami, A&M, Washington, Nebraska, etc are up for contract renewal. I'll bet they will give those schools similar promises.

He might have said it was for the apparel, but it was for the girls 😉

I prefer Reebok to both of them...Happy We are making that big money now and we'll be the featured school for Adidas...Recruits will come when they see how cool the uniforms look, We have creative control over that.

Reebok was owned by Adidas for a good bit. Now owned by Authentic Brands Group. They have a large portfolio including Sports Illustrated and Champion.

Two of our recruits already have deals with Adidas. Try again.

Adidas never got the colors right helmet didn’t match the uniform looked really Jr. high level colors. As far as the true Tennessee color we’ve been all over the board through the years. I just hope Danny make sure the color combinations are right.

I am hoping we can get a few hints of what the fully engaged product line will look like by some early product for the public. Anybody know what limits on production and announcements will be in place on retail stuff until Nike contract expires?

I believe AJ Brown is a religious conservative. He recently made a comment slamming the depraved sex lives most NFL players live. So he's the wrong guy to assume picked a school based on the women.
Was not aware, thanks.
