My rant in favor of Adidas uniforms

I don't get why people are so obsessed with Nike anyway. It's not like it was 10-20 years ago; their brand has declined significantly. They've been overtaken by Hoka, Brooks, and several others in footwear. I don't think kids are obsessed with 'playing with the Nike swoosh' any more.

We obviously got a much better deal from Adidas and White was right to take it.

1) If you're upset about paying an NIL fee to UT, then realize you're paying an NIL fee to Oregon with every Nike purchase.
2) I still hold the loss of the "Lady Vols" (Remember "we're all one Tennessee") to Nike. They couldn't commit to adding Summit Blue in the early part of the contract as they ramped up, so guess what got left out, then when they had the bandwidth, reintroduce "Lady Vols" so they could sell more merch.
3) I sure hope Adidas introduces orange stripe "Sambas" year one...... I'll buy 2 pair, one for every day and one for game days.

Its very simple. All things equal this will hurt us in recruiting because most people (including athletes) prefer Nike to all other athletic brands. That's why we're mad. Cause we know it'll hurt us in the long run regardless of what short term monetary gains the athletic department makes off this deal with an inferior brand.
Are there examples of schools missing out on recruits solely for the reason that they didn't like the manufacturer of the uniform and gear?

With UT having complete design control, it's possible that the Adidas deal is good for recruiting because word may get around that UT players are getting input into UT merch design.

If you're worried we'll have out of touch designs, nothing is more in touch with the players than giving them a little juice in the design room.

If I were a kid concerned with my swag, thinking I might be able to point to a UT shirt and say, "My boys and me helped put that together" sounds pretty good.

If the designs suck, it's not on Adidas. It's on Knoxville.

Lol, what?

Tennessee Orange, or Pantone 151 C, is the primary color for the university, but white, and later, Smokey — a shade of gray named after our beloved mascot — were added as the two other primary colors to help underscore the boldness of Tennessee Orange.

There are also accent colors in addition to the three primary hues, and they are all named after campus-related people, place and ideologies. From Torch red to Summit blue to Leconte — like the mountain here in East Tennessee — maroon, UT’s accent colors both complement Tennessee Orange and also offer consistency to UT’s look.

I still don't care. Change the "official" color if needed. It just needs to pop on TV.

This is a no-brain decision. Adidas has promised Tennessee "flagship" status. Nike has prioritized tOSU, Texas, Michigan (Jumpman), Alabama, Florida (Jumpman), Oregon, North Carolina (Jumpman), UCLA (Jumpman), Oklahoma (Jumpman), USC ahead of us. We are not even a top 10 priority for Nike. With Adidas, UT gets design control, and that should extend into matching glossiness/colors of different materials. They'll figure it out the color matching, and we will have more support and money from this deal.

Thank you very much!

Also, has anyone noticed how bad the quality of Nike apparel has gotten in the last five years? I pretty much have quit buying Nike because it is just expensive crap.

Kids these days don't care about who makes the uniforms. They care about NIL and if they are playing. Even moreso now with highly rated HS kids getting Adidas NIL's. Before NIL, absolutely I'd agree with you, but not anymore.

Agreed..Unless it's Vol Swag, I only buy Underr Armour clothing now. So much better quality than Nike. I wished UA would have offered us. Adidas has gotten better and hopefully with us being in the forefront for them, they go all in with our uni's and swag.

I thought we did ok with Adidas and then when we did switch
to Nike we dropped the Lady Vols brand and I think we dropped the blue from the Lady Vols unis. Fan outrage seemed to bring em back but the damage had been done already. No doubt in my mind that affected our LV recruiting. We took the #1 brand in womens sports and ditched it. I will be ok with the switch back. Just my 2 cents.

My only concern is the potential impact on recruiting…how much do 17-19 year olds look at name brands? How important is it to them? Personally I don’t have a preference.

I'm guessing the LV will be just fine with Candace on their side

I don't want pre-madonna recruits who are slaves to fashion. I want dogs not dandies.

This is a garbage of a take. You can’t show us one instance of where we lost a recruit due to branding. Especially now. Kids care about money, not the emblem in their jersey.

Yes but the team wearing Walmart will have to overpay compared to the team wearing the cooler brand that players like. That's what yall aren't getting. We're about to start paying a tax on recruits because of our awful uniforms.
You’re insinuating that a 18 year old kid cares more about the swoosh on his jersey than the 0s in his bank account. This is one of the most ridiculous takes you’ve had here, and that’s saying something.
