Dear Mr. Currie,
Im sure that you are being inundated with messages about our coaching situation. I have been trying to look at what you must be facing on multiple levels. You have a responsibility to the coaches, student athletes, Administration, donors, and the fan base. Im sure they are all coming at you with guns blazing.
Well, I wont blaze a gun. But, as an alum and a lifelong Vol fan, I do feel entitled and obligated to give you my opinion. I believe that, before the Missouri game, you should work out Coach Jones departure with him and his representatives to let him know that this is his last game. The level of toxicity, anger, and fan apathy are all rising with each passing game. This doesnt help us in recruiting as the latest decommitments have shown. It doesnt help with our chances of reaching a bowl game and avoiding a school record eight losses. It doesnt set a good stage for a new coach and it is hurting our national reputation.
Coach Jones has done some good things for our program. But, he is not the person to lead us to titles. Let him go now with some level of respect.
Let him use his Sunday show as a good and appropriate setting for him to say his goodbye.
Then, on Monday, you can address the interim situation and the coaching search. That would be best for all concerned.
Just my .02. Thanks for reading my thoughts.
Best wishes and Go Vols!
