My admittedly off-base Gators postgame Report

Fulky has some age on him as well. Left DB after his junior year to go to prep school in Asheville. There he reclassified as a junior and played 2 years there. Also he has the redshirt year here as well. My guess is he is 23 years old.
He was born April 29, 1997 in JC, so he's almost 23.

I remember I sat next to one of Fulk’s high school teachers during a game last year and her yelling way to go Big John during the whole game even when he wasn't playing lol

It was admittedly hard to predict after last year. It seemed he couldn't hit any shots longer than about 5 feet. Even this year, it seems he has gained a tremendous amount of confidence as the season went on. Next year, maybe he tries NBA 3's.

I talked to a guy that played vs Fulk in 17 U AAU and he remembers Fulk hitting 4 or 5..... 3's one game. If you watch his shot on the 3 he has great form and the wrist flips at the end like all good long ball shooters. Even the miss earlier this year was great form and on line just short on front rim. Of course confidence is a big thing on 3's miss some in a row & it becomes contagious.

I’ve spent all this time trying to tell these schleps how good Fulky is. You have a lot of folks who don’t know squat about b-ball.

They wanted him to transfer out even into this season.

Just realize there are lots of kids on here who don't understand anything about basketball. They get to post too.
One of them on this very board posted just a few games back.
"Can you believe we gave this guy a Scholarship". Yes really someone did

Fulkerson had 2 bad injuries. He is a tough young man with a great sense of humor and and a very high IQ.

I’ve always liked Fulkerson’s game. He was playing the best out of all the other freshman, including Grant, before he got injured. I kept telling my friends it would probably take him 2 years before he’s a major contributor again. One year to rehab and another year to mentally get through the season to prove to himself that he was fully healthy. An elbow injury for a basketball player is the last thing you want and I’m sure that was a nightmare for him to go through. I’m glad he’s having fun again and leading this team.

I think if Vescovi keeps progressing our starting 5 next year will be; Vescovi, Springer, JJJ, Pons, and Fulky then on the bench; K. Johnson, Walker Jr, Gaines, Bailey, Nkouhma, J. Johnson, Plavsic, Pember, and(if they play basketball) Wideman and Beckwith. Talk about depth and quality depth.

I think next year if Fulky keeps developing his shot then he could be a solid 15ppg 7rpg guy, and Pons could be nearly the same IMO.

JJ and Pember are not going to play much.

I think Keon Johnson will be a day 1 starter. He's best equipped to play the 3 spot and will be our best perimeter defender. Springer and Vescovi are going to compete for the last spot I believe. I believe Springer will start and Vescovi will be used as a scorer coming off the bench. It's not popular with many in our fanbase that Vescovi will come off the bench next year but I think it's clear that is exactly how it'll play out. I also don't think we'll see Vescovi and Springer on the floor together all that much.

We could use another big off the bench when we get pushed around inside. Auburn bullied us inside last week and Florida made their run today exclusively through Blackshear. Plus Victor Bailey Jr. is eligible next year. He has been practicing with the squad all year and is going to play a similar position as Johnson. We have plenty of wings next year and likely even if Johnson stays his minutes diminish.

I was waiting for someone to make an "opening for what I saw in this game. Thanks

First In several games I have watched this team seems to have unbelievable ability. A defense that is second to none. Offense that is OK. However for what ever reason, they can't maintain the intensity from start to finish. They run out of gas at about the same time in nearly every game. Yesterday Fulk carried them to the finish. (His missed FT attempts near the end were from a tired man). I feel the team becomes mentally tired. This causes them to look more physically tired than they really are.
Second Pons is becoming unbelievable. I have noticed there is a distance limit to his fade away jumper. Seems to be about 8'. Beyond that distance they are hitting the front of the rim or are forced too long, sorta out of control. His defensive ability is getting better every game. It will never reach the level of his shot blocking ability though. (unbelievable)
Third The other guys seem to be coming along SLOWLY. I know our January guard was behind from the start, but he is coming along. The others slowly. Our 5* freshman is a mystery to me. Is he really this shy and lacking in self confidence?
Fourth Our 7'er is just that and nothing more at this time. Maybe he will come along, here again SLOWLY. I did see a really good looking hook shot yesterday. (was so surprised don't remember if he made it or not)
BIG NO 5 Don't like making predictions, but if they can stay energized for a total game or two, they will have a really good SEC tourney.

If Vescovi can learn how to take care of the ball, he would be a elite point guard, but he is a turnover waiting to happen a lot of the time, maybe with a year under his belt he will learn to take care of the ball.

You hit the nail on the head with “kids!” We are now in the one and done, instant gratification era. People don’t remember when college starting lineups consisted of JR’s and SR’s, because those guys put in the time and work and developed within a system. Now if a kid doesn’t come in as a freshman and average 15+ ppg and get labeled as a lottery pick, he’s garbage.
The quicker Fulky realizes this is now his team, takes a leadership role, holds himself and others accountable and demands hard work from himself and others, the quicker next years team will come together and hopefully put together a nice year.
GBO!!

I will wait and see what happens when Vescovi has an off-season with Barns. He may become just what we need at either the 1or 2. We will have much more talent on the floor and have the ability to get more players with quality playing time.

You may be right, but I expect Vescovi will start next year. Barnes likes him, you can just tell and the experience he has had in such an odd year will serve him well. We had a number of instances yesterday when our ball movement was excellent and Vescovi initiated most of it. Springer will also play some point as will James. What we lack currently is that guy who can hunt and create his own shot, but if speculation is correct Springer has “it”.

I think that JJJ can get his own shot. The problem is that he often attempts to pass even when he has a good look.

Agree. But I keep wondering if he is a true 2? Would he be another Lofton?

Other than Durant, I don't think CRB has had a lot of one and done players in his coaching career.

I think Vescovi will play a bunch and will be a great 6th man. Springer looks to be a special player, plays like Dewayne Wade. If Vescovi beats him out it'll be because Springer is not as good as advertised. JJJ, Keon, Fulky and Pons are all starters I feel.

Johnson can play somewhere next year. It just might not be at Tennessee.
