Music City Bowl wants Vols (merged)

I'm reading some Fox Sports Knoxville people stating TN wants the MCB. I don't understand that outside of the payout. It would suck watching Kentucky get the better bowl game considering we're the better team.

The only rationale I can think of is that the UTAD and the staff value Tennessee getting that eighth win so much that they'd rather draw an easier opponent in what's essentially a home game, rather than take on a more challenging opponent in a more neutral setting. I would hazard that they believe 8-5 is much more useful for recruiting than 7-6. MCB would stack that deck for them nicely.

payout doesn’t matter. Sec gets bowl money and divides equally. MCB just reduces travel expenses

Techinally the Gator bowl really isn't a better bowl anymore. Everything after Citrus is pretty much equal footing now.

I always find it hilarious how people talk about "better bowls". If it's not a NY6 or playoff birth, it's pretty much all equal, and in this case you want the MCB form a program standpoint because of the higher payout.

Playing in the gator bowl or whatever doesn't make the team any better than it actually is lol

sec gets bowl payout and divides it among the members so we would get the same amount either way

Not saying you're wrong because I don't know, but if that's the case, what is the actual point of differing payouts per bowl?

It Is a better bowl because New Years in Florida vs a big ten team is better than Nashville on a Monday vs Louisville. It’s not even a contest

Location and time I agree but prestge wise, it's the same. I hope UT gets a Florida bowl for those than can go though.

Exactly, besides the top 4, everyone else is in the NIT of football

Well if that’s the game we get stuck with I won’t watch and for those of you that always say these kids deserve something after turning around the season the best move would be to not go.
We have to make the MCB view us like they view the teams the currently don’t want because they don’t travel.
The only way any Vol fan should go to this game would be the MCB gets so desperate they have to give the tickets away just to have butts in the seats.
