I'm not so sure. Muschamp was expecting CMBrown to vacate this year and he would step on as HC at Texas next season. If I were Muschamp, I'd be not only bummed out but flat out pissed off that CMBrown re-upped at Texas. I'd realize that my prime coaching years would be as an assistant. After stewing for a day in those thoughts, I'd be damn ready to jump ship if a big-name school like Tennessee called. Sure, he hasn't visited the campus and looked a the facilities, but anyone can rest assured that UTK has among the best training facilities in the country. He is also familiar with our fan base and the SEC. The only blank in need of filling would be the paycheck, which could be discussed over the phone. Remember, as worried as we are about the recruits jumping ship right now and signing day so close, any potential UTK coach is thinking the same thing and if I am serious about coaching the Vols, then I want to seal the deal as quickly as possible so that I don't penalize myself any more with lost recruits. Why wait a week to take the job when all the star athletes have jumped ship? Decide now and make the move. I would not be the least bit surprised if Muschamp has already worked out a deal to come.
On a side note, I see a lot of posts on CNNSI and ESPN where people are stating that Muschamp would be crazy to leave Texas for Tennessee because Texas is a "better job." That is BS. Those people don't know the history of college football. The Volunteer history is much richer than the Longhorn's and the fan base is at least as big. Plus, the coaches in K-town get paid more.
Also, I would not want to see Fullmer as AD. I like Phil, but the kids were out of control on his watch. I want to see Pat Summitt as AD! That woman would keep a clean ship.
