Movies you've seen recently II

A Real Pain is pretty good. It's a dramedy about two cousins who go on a holocaust tour of Poland in honor of their deceased Grandma. The subtext is about the different ways millennials carry grief.

I'm going to see Weapons tomorrow at Downtown West with some friends .... it looks like a Pied Piper type horror story. It's getting good reviews. Will post a review tomorrow night. Stay tuned.

Weapons is full on weird. Not gonna be an easy explanation or review .... not even sure how I feel about it.

7/10

It's okay, I guess .... seems like it's getting more hype than is deserved.

The antagonist is a crazy voodoo aunt/lady and it unfolds in character chapters that overlap each other. Leaves a lot unexplained.

Spoiler that please.

Weapons 9/10. Excellence. What a fun ride!

That director is rebooting Resident Evil next. It is without a doubt my favorite video game series...but the movie adaptations have been pure trash so far. I will say im not too keen on this guy so far because he has said there will not be any characters from the game and it will be an original story. Which is pretty much why the other RE movies were horrible.

I haven't seen Weapons but it does look intriguing...I have seen Barbarian which I did enjoy.

the trailers for Weapons did a great job hiding everything, but yeah I like to go in as blind as possible.

Weapons. I liked it. Good horror. Some funny moments. Not anything new but a good way to tell a story. Not a huge RT fan so I’m not saying 10/10 but solid. I will say the previews for the more Jordan Peele movie looks good

Alien Romulus was really good.

Alien has become clearly one of the greatest movie franchises. Outside of a few bad Predator crossover movies, their batting average/slugging % are like Barry Bonds numbers.

They lost me way back at Alien 3 (1992).

However, I consider Aliens (1986), to be the best sci-fi/horror sequel ever made. The transition from Ridley Scott to James Cameron was seamless. The first two movies were incredibly well-made and had great casts.

Me too, and I haven't revisited that one since. I feel the same way about Resurrection. They weren't terrible, but meh.

I would say that all of these are top tier films for this genre:

Alien
Alens
Promethues

I consider Romulus "great." For 4 of 7 movies to be great, and 3 to be elite puts the franchise in elite company.

Prometheus is one of my all time favorite movies and I have had to fight to defend its honor with a lot of people lol
