There really aren’t very many of these. I would not count movies where the protagonist is technically the “bad guy” and wins (e.g., Ocean’s 11). What others are there that I’m forgetting about?

How?

And that's been a trend in sports movies over the last decade or so (Friday Night Lights, Coach Carter, a few others)

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. I'm simply saying that I would exclude movies where the protagonist wins at the end, even if the protagonist happens to be the bad guy (such as Ocean's 11, where Ocean is a thief robbing casinos - he is still the protagonist of the film, not the antagonist). I'm trying to identify movies where the actual antagonist of the film wins.

Ohhh gotcha. Misread. I thought you were using Oceans as an example of the "bad guy" (in this instance the casino owner) being the winner

Original Rocky might work. Silence of the Lambs is sorta dodgy with your protagonist criteria. The two that immediately leaped to my mind were No Country for Old Men and The Usual Suspects.

Lots of horror movies probably fit in here somewhere if you make it where the ending suggests (or even outright shows) the bad guy/things/creatures weren't really defeated.

Well, Apollo did win, that's true. What did Apollo say later? "I won the fight, but you beat me." Good one.

Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness if you count the alternate ending, Return of the Living Dead, Hellraiser, No Country For Old Men, Aliens,The Watchmen, Soilent Green to name a few off the top of my head.

I read the first two responses before I realized this thread is going to be loade with spoiler alerts. Whoops.

Ah, I haven't seen any of the Saw movies, interesting.

First Saw movie is really good. Second one wasn't bad either. Past that I didn't see any of them. I would recommend anyone that likes that style of movie to at least see the first one.

Pretty much every Jason, Freddy, or Michael Myers movie since the sequel proves they didn't kill them.

I kind of count There Will Be Blood. He wasn't exactly a hero and he straight up gets away with murder, even though the guy he murdered was a d-bag himself.

I don't count the original Rocky. He lost but Rocky clearly stated earlier in the movie his goal wasn't to win the match but to "go the distance" (finish the fight). So I would say technically he won because he accomplished his goal.

Swordfish

The Strangers

The Omen and Wicker Man ("Evil" movies may need own category)

Braveheart (sort of)

Easy Rider?

Monty Python's Holy Grail

Trying to think outside the box a little, would One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest qualify? How about Falling Down? If his intent was to get killed is that "losing"?
