Hear me out....

Put red Yale Jerseys on that team. Yes thats right some of these guys would be playing for Yale like teams 3 or 4 years ago as recruited.

They got better... stonger, faster, better shooters. They gave their all for VolNation. If Murray State or Colgate or Yale or some of these other teams had done what this team did 31-6 (4 of those loses either one bucket or OT loses) to some of the best teams in the country. The nation would say dang those guys can play! Not call them underachievers! Have you lost your minds.
They assemble couple of the best seasons UT has ever had including several weeks at number one.
It was a brutal and disappointing loss! There were a dozen or more calls, bounces etc.... that could’ve changed this game and couple of others this year. But do not take away all the positives this team through sweat and tears and lifting repitions gave to Volnation!

The reason they are loved and respected is they laid it all on the line in preparations and games for UT.

I for one say thanks for the memories and my favorite season in 50 years of watching great Vols play! Your effort, dedication and class inspire me to be better in what I do. That is not easy to achieve. You achieved it!

I gotta say, it was so cool to see Alan Houston and Wade Houston in the stands pumping their fists. Was also great to see Candace Parker in the studio barely containing her bias. Didn't see that many Purdue people around in prominent places. Still, they won the game I guess...ugh, I'm depressed again.

I'm also different than a lot of people on here tonight. I am mostly thinking about the positives, and my hopes for the future of the progam. Sure, we got the bad end of the breaks at the end of the game, but I can think of a game or two that the breaks went our way.

I truly enjoyed the Ernie Bernie years, and the Pearl/Lofton teams, but this team has to be right up there we the very best of them.

They will have a Sweet 16 banner and a Barnes National Coach of the Year Banner. They also will be remembered as the peak of UT basketball success to this point.

Only one team each season reaches the ultimate goal of the championship and there was no more the 2019 Vols could have done to advance in the tournament given the referee - infused hose job at the end of regulation. They got a similar 3 point shot phantom foul call against Turner vs. Iowa but it was not in the final 5 seconds of play.

When did Yale start wearing red?

They were a 2 seed. 2 seeds are supposed to advance to the Elite 8. No overachieving from that standpoint. From the Vandy game in Nashville on, they were barely a tournament team, let alone such a high seed. Yes, they peaked early, just like the football team, if a shaky Auburn team represented the peak. For the basketball team a tale of two seasons really. I liked the first one better.

I think that these guys were underrated recruits who worked their tails off to become really solid basketball players. I admire them for that and the dedication that they showed to becoming the best basketball player that they could be during their time at UT. NOW that didn't always translate to game play and wins. This team made some of the laziest passes, had inexplicable defensive lapses, and settled for shots when we shouldn't have in MULTIPLE games. We got destroyed in Lexington by the officials and UK, that was obvious to the world. This team also beat UK twice, Gonzaga on a neutral court, and lost to Kansas. Last night Purdue's guard made unworldly 3 pointers, he didn't even see the basket on several. I think in some avenues this team underachieved and in some avenues overachieved. Taking everything into consideration, this teams ceiling, I think that this team should've at least made the Elite 8. I'm not dogging the team as it was undoubtedly one of, if not the best UT basketball team of all time, but they did not finish what they started and should have.

How many banners are we gonna have this year?

If that is your only criteria for being a fan, you aren't going to be happy very often. You have very few teams that will satisfy you on any type of consistent basis. I think most of us think we should have won either the regular or tournament title, but it's unfortunate that you can't celebrate a group of young men who were not highly recruited that have stuck together and worked their butts off to get to the sweet 16 and conducted themselves with class along the way.

What I find to be hilarious about most of the ones bashing the team; is they get defensive when their "fandom" is questioned. I have read many of the miserable minority point out that fan is short for fanatic. Obviously, the negavols (miserable minority) don't actually understand what being a fanatic means. From Merriam -Webster a fanatic is " 1 a person exhibiting excessive enthusiasm and intense uncritical devotion toward some controversial matter". Sounds more like a "sunshine pumper" to me. If you can't take the bad/disappointing/depressing results along with the good, there is nothing anyone can do to help you. NO team goes undefeated with blowouts every game with a never ending stream of National Championships. Deal with reality.

That's not the point. Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed we didn't achieve more, but for this team to take a group of 3 stars and transform them into what we enjoyed this year is...well...incredible. It's a helluva story. Don't think we can count on things coming together like this again and that's why I hope Barnes continues to recruit better players.

It's hard to take a step back and focus on positives after such a big disappointment... But it's not as hard for those of us who grew up without heartache in the NCAA Tournament because between 1984-1997 we were never there. I will take this any day over that.

Hard to argue with 15-3 in the SEC. Beat UK twice late. I respectfully disagree. I think it was a great season. Only one team wins there last game. When you consider Schofields freshman year they lost 19 games, I think your not giving these guys the respect they deserve. We don’t cheat like Will Wade. We do it the right way.

We actually made it to the Tournament in 1989. Lost to West Virginia in the first round.
