Most impressive thing about today?

I am watching drama all over the place with other schools, but Butch runs his show like the recruiting stud he is. Two years in a row no drama and a bunch of EE's, not sure any school could ask for more. Please VolNation don't think this is easy. Congrats Vol coaches.

just that it went so smoothly. It speaks to the relationship Butch and the coaching staff has established with these kids. Was there one defection on signing day? It is a great class! The addition of DR was incredible! Now, let's get behind these young men, and get ready for Bowling Green! Anybody got tickets!!!! GBO

THIS is (partly) why we "sunshine pumpers" (a term intended to be pejorative but a label I am proud to carry) love CBJ and his staff. What these guys are doing is unprecedented and yes that includes the Fulmer years, especially considering the half-decade or so dump that had been taken on the program prior to their arrival.

I still have questions about development, gameday decision making, and why he decides to button that top button, but sweet baby Jesus can he recruit.

The Vols War Room was a highly professional operation today. I could see firsthand why the best players in the country want to be part of the UT football program under Butch Jones. The level of professionalism with Butch and staff is at the highest level.

All the haters -- they hate us because they ain't us. I would hate us too, except that I love the Vols.

Last year, I was really happy to get a top 5 class and was stunned to go a whole signing day on VN without a single thread arguing that star ratings don't matter (thank you Butch!).

This year, I am so very pleased with this class, but I think the most impressive thing about today is how smoothly it went for such a highly ranked class.

I mean, we got a top 10 (possibly top 5 class) all signed up by around noon ET on signing day. Have we ever had it go so smoothly with such a top notch class? If so, I don't recall it.

What has impressed you the most about this signing day/class?

Getting Richmond. That was superb.

I can't remember two classes in a row this strong. Very impressive.

Maybe most impressive is that all of the other top 10 programs in the last two years have had recent success. Jones is getting great talent in spite of UT not having won more than 7 games since 2007.

Richmond and landing a top 5 class is highly impressive given the state of the program the past 7 years.

I was glad to see the OC situation didn't have any impact on Sheriron Jones either. It would have stood to reason he might have looked around and signed somewhere else.

Good post. I'm impressed that he got you to say something complimentary. ;)

Congratulations on a great recruiting class. UT is on the move! Wish you well and see you next year at the swamp (it is in FL isn't it?)

We didn't lose anyone in Dooley's second class (IIRC), but it was a class with more lower ranked recruits.

This is a joke, look where that class got us.:thud:There is one damn thing about it, look where he is at today shining Jerry Jones shoes why we are hauling in a top 5 class instead of the 37th rated class in the nation, believe me recruiting rankings does matter.

Pretty sure he never even reconsidered the decision, at least it seems that way based on public statements.

Quick question, considering the size of this class and last years how many can we expect to sign in 2016?

Do the same thing next year weed out the ones that wont work hard enough or get there feelings hurt when a coach tells them, this is TENNESSEE not high school superstar you where you are bigger than the high school, this is TENNESSEE and that is bigger than Johnny be good superstar.:eek:hmy:

I think still around the mid- to upper-20s. Attrition plus graduations should, year in and year out, mean you're looking for mid-20s. Right now, we have 19 seniors on the roster, plus a few juniors who could potentially decide to leave early for a shot at the NFL. Add in a few more underclassmen who decide to transfer or drop out for whatever reasons, and you're up to 25 losses.

The players we signed at difference makers are certain positions than causes major issues for our opposing teams .

1 edge rushers with great speed
2. Burners in the back end
3. 1-2 punch at RB, both 5 stats
4. Speed and size issues at WR
5. Massive disruptive DT's that will require double teams

Yes! Only counters to that, really, are:

1. Youth and inexperience at OLine (especially looking 2-deep).

2. Development of our starting QB to full potential (decision-making and pass accuracy).

3. Significant # of injuries at RB and (if Wharton and Jenkins leave) WR could spell trouble; we've great talent at the 2-deep on both, but get real thin real quick after that.

On the defensive side, we're already hella strong and will only get better next year.
