Most humiliating loss of Butch era

We need to drop the yearly Bama game. It is no longer a rivalry with division play and we are stupid for keeping them on our schedule. Our schedule is brutal enough as it is. If we want to compete for SEC east titles and actually have a chance at winning it we have to drop Bama from our yearly schedule. No one in the country would be stupid enough to schedule Bama on a yearly basis. You know why? Its freaking stupid!

You sound like a gator to me. We don't take a backseat to anyone at Tennessee. You obviously don't remember the previous decade.

Its dumb to play bama yearly. If you are cool with getting your A$$ handed to you on a yearly basis when you don't have to then you are a glutton for punishment. Big picture wise, playing bama only negatively effects our SEC east rankings. Do you think any of the other SEC east rival would play them yearly if they don't have to? Hell no! Plus, if you get into the title game you are most likely playing Bama. Big picture wise, the best option for UT would be to drop the yearly bama game.

We had a lot of injuries, and that definitely contributed to the slaughter.

That said, I believe this team has reached the Butch Jones ceiling. Butch is a great recruiter and a mediocre coach. With talent, he can get us to 9 maybe 10 wins. That's really good and I can commend him for stabilizing our program. This loss may have been embarrassing but we aren't embarrassed against Vandy, KY, etc. at least. He was placed in a deep hole and got us out of it

But the offensive schemes have been puzzling. The end of game management in several games both last year and this year has been frustrating. Why have we been coming out so flat against everyone?

I think he'll be our coach for at least another 2-4 years. I fear to see what happens as our recruiting starts to decline, though.

Why weren't we able to get a more serviceable offensive line after 4 years of recruting? Why couldn't we find a serviceable qb to replace Josh Dobbs, who is a smart, great guy but clearly is missing that spark?

I'm not a doomsdayer but I've accepted that this is probably as much as we can expect out of his teams. With Butch, I think we will be the orange version of Richt's Georgia teams - maybe a little less success. We'll sit at #2 or #3 in the East but never win an SEC championship or Natty. But at least we're not Dooley's Vols

agree with this. One thing that I think shows the lack of coaching talent is on one of the first plays we ran ran kamara with Hurd lead blocking and it looked good and gained a decent amount. Never saw it again the whole game. The swing pass to the RB out of the backfield...never works on SEC defenses. Where's the middle screen? Dobbs on the draw? I just feel like Tennessee left a lot of offense to be played out of the game.

Butch and co. aren't gonna beat anyone with their game plan, we should give up hope on this right now

Actually I do believe it was ran at least one other time and the result was different.

It works when Dobbs looks down field 1st.
Not a lot from Dobbs to help his line. The QB can do a lot just with his eyes, such as look off coverage pump fake, and action. What I don't understand is they really don't zone read and QB keep early in the game.
with Dobbs running threat I don't know why they don't fake draw and then dump to TE in middle. you could really suck in safeties and LBs.

I saw some things from Bama that tells me zone read is figured out. pthey were run blitzing to spots based on which side RB lines up on. pistil would be more effective as it

Or pick what, any of two dozen games under Dooley.

Significant progress has been made, and I am hoping it continues. Butch seems to be learning as he goes, I hope it continues.

Don't like it? Then maybe we can go back to being 5-7 every year, and not even EXPECTING to stay with a team like bammer.

Next year will be a rebuilding year, but I expect at least 8-4. If we are not in contention in both 18 and 19, then a change can be made.

But not yet, especially since the season has yet to play out.

Bammer almost lost to Ole MIss and gave up 400+ passing yards to the pigs. I think either LSU or Tamu can take them, and who knows, maybe even Auburn.

And I like our odds facing LSU or Tamu in Altanta pretty well, if some guys get healthy.

Stay tuned, it's a long season yet.

eh, that's just kind of a lacy perspective. while the game was still competitive, i think the effort was just fine.

it became pretty clear, pretty early on though, that their front 7 won the LOS, and we didn't have any answer. you can blame that on the coaches, if you want. but in reality, our personnel on the O line just isn't close to the personnel in Bama's front 7. 3 of the 7 could go in the 1st round of the NFL draft. how many TN O linemen are going in 1st round of the draft?

we didn't "lose" the game. like we "lost" games against OU and FL last year...we just got beat by a much better, much healthier team. it happens. and as long as Saban is at Bama and they recruit they way they do across both lines of scrimmage, they're going win a lot more than they lose....against everyone, not just Tennessee.

We didn't get beat. We got slapped around like we were north eastern alcorn state technical college or some small school like that. Dooley didn't even lose this bad to Alabama.

You know, it doesn't have to be Butch or the worst coach in SEC history.

Given what Dooley left us with, the team is about exactly where I expected them to be.

My guess was we would struggle for the first couple years, but hopefully make a bowl game in year 2 (or even year 1...it was close). Year 3 be mentioned as a contender for the East, which happened, and in year 4 be the Eastern division fave.

It happened almost exactly that way.

Now unfortunately we face a rebuilding year, but I expect us to compete at the highest level in 2018 and 2019.

We will see.

Oregon is a good pout of reference. Look at the youth and inexperience we had on the field that day and who we played aginst Bama. Looks similar on D given the injuries. Also for Bama our Oline had so many injuries we couldn't take advantage of our skill players. Our coaches were driving a V8 with only 5 hitting. We desperately need more good O linemen and LBs and some luck on the injury front. Let's finish the season strong and go recruit some.
