Morley Gone??

a.is blaker a UT fan that went to the game Vanderbilt)
or
b.did he lie and fabricate racial intolerances about other team.
c. went, heard it all, had a good time, listen to 1510, and volnation on his new super duper phone(same time game going on), etc. and came back with quality details.

I want to believe C, but its hard my friend:)

Article said that Morley had 6 credits last term which was enough to play in the game but his gpa didn't stay high enough for him to continue as a student.

This is a personal responsibility. Bad for the kid but probably good for the team over the long haul. The players need to know that they are student athletes.

BTW, if this had happened somewhere else, the negavols would probably be heralding the discipline lacking in Fulmer.

Are you kidding? There are alot of kids that wouldn't go to college under any other circumstances that get athletic scholarships, work hard, and make it.

I don't remember what Morley's academics were like coming in. However I do know that even bright kids can struggle in college especially if they don't take advantage of the help available to them.
1. You obviously didn't read the post I was referring to, so your reply has no context or validity.
2. If you don't know Morley had a questionable academic history coming in, you must have lived in a cave during his recruitment.

This is Fulmer were talking about, he believes in 2nd chances, 3rd chances, etc

I think it depends. He didnt allow James Banks back, and Banks was producing far more then Morley.

As for whether Fulmer should take any blame...yes he doesnt take their tests for them, but he is a babysitter. All college coaches are to a certain degree. These are kids being thrust into the limelight, playing on national tv in front of thousands in person and millions more on tv, held as gods on campus. I imagine it could be a lot to take in.

My main issue is that this seems to happen more often then not with our better players being lost to off-field problems. Banks, that Lee Smith recruit, Bret Smith, now Morley. There has to be some accountability with the player, and some accountability with the program. Its not the program's fault he failed a test, but maybe it is the program's fault that he didnt get more (or better help)...or maybe not enough discipline.

Considering it was fall semester of his sophmore year and his grades were good enough this semester...that means that his grades were very poor last year. So going into this fall there was already proof that he was strugging very bad. You dont just mess up your last semester and get kicked on...its a gradual process of poor performances. And yet Fulmer was starting him...maybe he had no choice talent-wise, but Fulmer should have known that Morley was borderline failing out. Could he and should he have done something? Yeah I think so. But maybe he did and we just dont know.

I thought he did allow James Banks multiple opportunities to do right.:dunno:

I can hear Fulmer now: "James, for the sixth time, I told you not to.........."

Its kinda disgusting to think that as a Coach (Head or Position) that I the Coach can or will not be held accountable for the failure of my athletes. What little coaching I did, I was the first to see the grades of my players and the Teachers knew I wanted to know if I had a player that was backsliding. I feel that D was the kid that came in with problems and therefore a red light or something should have single him out as having problems and I would as a Coach have to deal with these problems as they progressed. Morley didn't fail the team as much as the Coaches Fulmer/Slade failed Morley.

No knows to what extent CPF or the football program helped or attempted to help Morley. Maybe alot, maybe alittle. Everyone wants to throw the staff under the bus for a kid who had a shotty year on the field and sounds like a even more shotty year in the classroom. Funny part is many just assume CPF failed the kid without even knowing what happened during this whole last semester.

You know, after seeing that he was rated as a 5 star recruit, I am kind of disgusted. It takes more than just pure ability to play football. You can't do much with someone who is willing to learn nothing. Maybe he made the boneheaded plays that someone mentioned because he's just a dumbass. Good riddance.

By the end of his junior year at Miami Killian High School, Demetrice Morley flashed the speed, size and talent of a top college football prospect. His classroom performance, however, failed to match his athletic skills.

University of Tennessee's Demetrice Morley graduated from University High with a grade point average of 2.75, precisely what he wound up needing to qualify for a scholarship.

He received three F's that year and had a 2.09 grade point average in his core courses

Does anyone want to realize how pathetic a 2.09 GPA in high school really is? To say he's a project is the understatement of the century.

People like him are an embarrassment to anyone who has to pay tuition. Short of the coaches doing his work FOR HIM, he really had no legitimate chance at passing most college courses.

I've stuck up for him all season. Yeah I know he made some bonehead plays, but no more then Stewart who was a senior. He came in as the #1 db so the talent is there. If this ends up being true I think its a fairly big loss.

The other thing is...why does this happen to us? I am completely reminded of James Banks on this...talented sophmore, lots of athletic ability, leaves school under off-field problems. Where is the discipline? And why cant Fulmer take care of this?

I read that it was due to grades...

Lets just hope that somehow D-Mo and the UT coaches find a way to get him enrolled again. Maybe summer classes or something...

You must be enrolled in the spring to be eligible for the fall. I was kicked out for a semester for grades and was ineligible for the 98 season. could practice and work out but could not dress or go to bowls or anything for the following season. and anyway you guys need to get over it. he is gone and won't be there talent in college comes a dime a dozen. someone will step up and play.

I failed even though i had all the help possible. I did come back and get eligible because it was up to me and the coaches helped me every step of the way. morley did have the best athletic facilities as well as the top of the line tutors and educational facilities if he fails it is on him and no one else. quit trying to give him a scapegoat when there is not one. he did it to himself. that is the problem with kids today. no real resonsibility.

Kudos to Fulmer, Coaching Staff

Isn't Morley the same one who caught a punt at the four yard line (punts should not be fielded inside the ten yard line) in the Outback Bowl then refused to accept Fulmer's admonishment as he walked off the field.

My guess is he was kicked off the team as much as anything.

A player that won't follow the coach's orders isn't worth having on your team - even if he's got six stars.

Hopefully, this was a step to show the rest of the team that refusal to follow instructions will result in serious repercussions. A little discipline finally at last. But it might be too little, too late, though.
Wrong guy. So you think they should kick Hefney off the team for fielding that punt? How about let's kick Foster off for being responsible for two fumbles?

Idiot...

By the way one of the classes he failed was bowling!!!! No joke.

So it's no one's fault but morely. If you are too lazy to go to a bowling class, because thats all you have to do is be in class to pass, then he doesn't deserve the chance to play for UT. It should be an honor for the guys to put on the Orange.

:eek:lol: :lolabove:

His lack of discipline off the field may explain why he didn't fulfill his potential on the field. It takes guts as a HC to boot a starter rather than covering up as so many do.

Unless Fulmer was recently named the Dean of Academic Affairs, he had no say in the matter. The guy didn't make his grades, therefore he's ineligible. Fulmer didn't boot anybody.

Nope not joking at all. Was talking to someone last night that in the Football department and no one could believe that he actually failed bowling.

i'd probably fail too, my best is about 160...but, assuming the class is bowling, effort is probably graded, wherein i'd have a 4.0
