Those FL offenses were unreal. Can you imagine trying to stop those offenses with this recent bunch we have had? Thats nightmare fuelOur defenses in the 1990s underachieved. The 1998 defense was great, but that's about it for the 90s. We gave up 41 pts in the second half to UF in 1995 and 35 in the first half in 1996. There were about 7-8 guys on both those defenses that were NFL starters. Chavis is the most overrated DC of all time and your claim is BS. Nebraska ran right down our throats both times we played them in the 1990s. UF scored 41, 31, 62, 35 and 33 in consecutive games against us from 1993-1997 with some of the best defensive players in college football.
I am ready for the new phaseThe entire DB industry teaches to not turn your head. For many reasons, you can lose your man
,you run slower,etc.
Again, for the probably 20th time. It's called being in phase. That's the technique from pros to CFB. You play the hands. Watch pro, they do the exact same thing.
Very rarely do DB's turn their head because they are taught not to.
Other teams besides Florida scored a bunch of points too. Our offenses were unreal too. Our 1994,95 and 96 teams all gave up a lot of points. The defenses weren't anything like you described except for 1998Those FL offenses were unreal. Can you imagine trying to stop those offenses with this recent bunch we have had? Thats nightmare fuel
His is evidently in 2nd place now. McCoy nor Hood were on NFL radar 2 years ago but now will be drafted early. Redmond was a 3* and made freshman AA and all freshman SEC. Gibson played well prior to injury. This has to be one of the stupidest post I have seen on this site. Martinez has been the worst coach on the whole team. In five years the corners have the worst coached group on the field. Only pure talent has kept us from exploding on the outside.
Sanders recruited Hood as the replacement for Hunter. He chose to leave Colorado, and he was not buried on their depth chart. Seems like he just saw through the Sanders circus, and he probably made the best decision of his life.Again, Hood was buried on the depth chart at Colorado. He came here as a depth piece. The fact that he stepped in for McCoy and played at the level he did and the improvement he showed from Colorado is a credit to whoever was coaching him here.
The terminology you're looking for is----LOM'sThe Willie hate is proof that many vol fans are impossible to please. The number of players he's put in the NFL is unmatched. He had 3 All-American type corners on the roster this year in McCoy, Hood, and Gibson plus he had a freshman All-American in Redmond. Injuries aside, his group was inarguably the best corner group in the country but FaHr WiLlie!!
Idiots.
You’re about to be real disappointed if you don’t like zone defenseNo he is not. We will disagree there.
He got lucky with portal talent. They were mostly already developed. If anything he taught them the art of not turning and looking for the ball.
Any coach that was part of the zone “coverage” needs to be fired. The one where defenders stayed 7 yard away from relievers, allowed them to make the catch, and missed tackles 10 yards down the field.
I really think Martinez was on the verge of something special. He lost two NFL caliber DBs and two more were playing (one as a true freshman however). That said, if Safety is also Martinez's responsibility, they were not developing the same. Perhaps that was scheme? Perhaps Martinez needs to focus on coaching corners only? We definitely showed DRASTIC improvements in that position since he took over back there. That all said, KNOWles KNOWS betterStaff Changes at Tennessee
Chris Low reporting that Jim Knowles will be allowed to make some staff changes. Anthony Poindexter likely coming to coach safeties. I don't see Garner going and I would think Inge would be unlikely...Who do you think gets the axe?
Well. there is one chink in the armor of that statement. One of those corners that got beaten, Ty Redmon, went from a player that looked like a true freshman in his first game against Georgia, to one of the highest graded CBs amongst all freshman in the country. Colton Hood became the lockdown corner other teams struggled against. In fact, if you look at the overall ranking by PFF for Tennessee for the entire year, the top 3 defensive players were Joshua Josephs, Colton Hood and Ty Redmon. When two cornerbacks that weren't even supposed to start, including a true freshman, go from not ready for primetime to top three on the defense, that shows development. I do not remember any safeties on that list.Anyone supporting Martinez is a fool. Worst db play in years... backs never turn to look for the ball and just get pi flags. Good recruiter, terrible position coach.
WM coached CB’s. Banks coached safeties.I really think Martinez was on the verge of something special. He lost two NFL caliber DBs and two more were playing (one as a true freshman however).
