Colton Hood couldn't crack the depth chart at Colorado and is an NFL player after a year with Martinez. He also got a true freshman ready to have a freshman All-SEC caliber season. Nobody did more with less the last two years than Martinez.

NFL scouts and front office people have valued him and the players he produces dating back to his time at Georgia and his first stint at Tennessee. The list of his NFL products that came in as 3* or lower players . is lengthy.

You're not required to like him, but you don't know the intricacies of defensive football if you think he's bad at his job.
Exactly 💯. Nice to see someone else knows football. Martinez did a good job 👍

They're not making a change there as of today.

If you're going to make a change at S&C, you do it day one after the regular season.
Huge mistake. Heupel has too many players sitting on the bench getting paid. Unless he has better conditioning I can’t see him winning at a high level here.

He sucks. I will say this, he should donate part of his pay to Garner. When the line got pressure it covered up his deficiencies. When don’t get pressure I will refer to the first sentence of my post.

Now run along

I must be an uncle too. Look at all of the players Martinez has put into the league. And this year may have been one of his best.
What is our defense ranked.

I think people have forgotten what elite play is. What we are seeing is not elite defense.

The dark decade really rewired people. All I see is a soft defense that could cover and couldn’t tackle.

You are showing your lack of football knowledge. Our cornerbacks have been extremely good. Our safeties have been the major problem. You need to run along.

Safeties have been an issue every time Willie has been the coach.

I don't understand how anyone can defend him. His track record has always sucked. Look at other teams message boards when he was the coach. Same thing.

There is a reason he's never moved up on the ranks.

That reason is he sucks. If it looks like a suck, sounds like a suck, quacks like a suck, smells like a suck....he sucks

Exactly. Portal extended his career
Agree 100%..Not sure why some struggle with this. Gibson wasn't even top 60 in passes defended last year..( He had 5) and Redmond was even worse. Both are DB's Martinez recruited. And don't get me started on the years prior to 24 with how bad the DB's played and he can't recruit an elite DB to save his life. There's a reason the best job he could get late in his career was C.Fla before he got hired here.

This is not getting the attention it deserves, IMO.

We needed a new DC. Checked the box.

We need a new S&C coach. Crickets.

We need a new FG kicker. Ditto.

The most obvious need has been filled. There are at least two losses hiding in the next two needs.

Get. It. Done.

2026 doesn't have to be a rebuilding year. But unless the obvious needs are addressed, then 2027 will be...

Go Vols.
2027 natty run year

Safety play has been terrible, Banks has been the safety coach. Not Martinez

DeerPark I agree. Last year Martinez coached McCoy and Gibson. McCoy may go in the first round of the draft this year after getting second team All American honors last year. Gibson will be a starter when he returns and everyone is excited about his future as an NFL prospect. Both being hurt this year, Martinez coaches Hood to an all sec year and true freshman 3 star Redmond to the freshman All American team. Now Hood is looking like he could go first round along with McCoy. How exactly could Martinez have produced better results than that?

I should have specified that DBs in general have been bad. Martinez sucks. We will have to agree to disagree
Actually you started by saying safeties were bad which everyone can agree. Then you were corrected because you mistakenly thought Martinez coached the safeties and in fact he successfully coached the CBs as I mention in my post above. Now you are pivoting to Martinez just sucks because the DBs in general suck? To recap, Banks coached the safeties and the CBs which were coached by Martinez received post season awards the last 2 years and 2 will go high in this years draft. So DBs in general haven't been bad, just the safeties. The CBs are getting drafted and postseason awards. You seem to be struggling with your argument against Martinez.

Hood and McCoy had already been coached up. Martinez just had to not f*** it up.
Again, Hood was buried on the depth chart at Colorado. He came here as a depth piece. The fact that he stepped in for McCoy and played at the level he did and the improvement he showed from Colorado is a credit to whoever was coaching him here.
