More NFL Draft buzz for Josh Dobbs

John Walsh from BYU was projected as a top 10 PICK before his junior year...then reality hit. 7th round 1995...never played. Different players different skillsets but same lesson...projections are fool's gold.

Lol. You dug deep to find that. Of course anything could happen. The experts have a good opinion of Dobbs as of now though.

Didn't have to dig...was top of mind. "Experts" that comprise the preseason mags had Mr. Walsh on their "can't miss" draft pick list...you couldn't find a resource that disagreed. Waaay more mass consensus that what you have touting Dobbs. Remember being shocked at what happened to Walsh after the shorts Olympics (combine) and pro days got ahold of him. Convinced the same would have happened to Cardale Jones if he had declared. They don't go by POTENTIAL...they rip draft prospects apart before they draft them high. When you have the duds like Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell slip through, it makes the grading get more stringent. Dobbs has skills and a great head on his shoulders...but even you and his VN agent would have to admit that he's not a finished product. We have another year to see if he finishes. :hi:

I have never proclaimed him a finished sure fire prospect. He isn't. Is he a legit pro prospect? Yes. He has what GMs love. Intangibles. The measurements will also be decent at the combine.

Not sure what the argument is then. Both sides seem real impassioned. Are you and D4H on the same page? Not sure that Dobbs biggest detractor will dispute that he's tall enough and will ace the interviews...D4H seems to posture that he'll ace the throwing sessions...I and others think he needs a lot of work before he's high draft caliber.

I doubt anyone has said he's a finished product. You're arguing against a ghost on that one.

All I've argued is that he's a legit pro prospect.

I've said he's a good enough passer to be considered a legit prospect. Never said he would ace anything. Simply said he has the potential. He just needs to be consistent. Cause I've seen him make many good NFL caliber throws.

wasn't Barkley supposed to be a round one guy and then had a subpar senior year and dropped to 4th round?..I don't think he has even played a game in the NFL yet

sounds like the exact opposite of Ryan Leaf..with the same NFL results..can't believe that people thought he was better than Manning :)

5 stars bust every year just like 1st rounders. You can measure many things but you can't measure heart, resiliency, and durability. Usually those 3 and up being just as important as 40 times and the bench press.

He got into two games his rookie year...none since. The common refrain is that he cost himself by coming back his senior year and his stock dropped after his shoulder injury. I think the combine and pro day would have revealed him for what he was. Giving the shoulder injury too much credence is what most likely got him into the fourth round.

Tebow had heart, resiliency, durability, and proably pretty good bench press as well. None of that matters in the NFL if you can't accurately and consistently deliver the football. It's highly unlikely Dobbs will suddenly become a different player and NFL style pocket passer in his senior year. I can't think of a single college QB who drastically changed his style/habits in senior year and be very successfull at it. Also, remember that CBJ wants/needs to win big next year so he is unlikely to push Dobbs to become something that's not natural to him. If CBJ really wanted a quality drop back QB Dormady would already be starting by now.

He still got drafted though. Even highly

I think coach Cut or Manning or someone similar could get Dobbs drafted

But IMO not having a true QB coach in his junior and senior seasons is rough

This is an honest question, does anyone on this site have a job that pays you to evaluate players coming out of college?

Getting drafted and making it in NFL are two completely different things. Sure Dobbs may get drafted in some low round but who cares if he has next to 0 chance to actually have a meaninful career?
The fact Tebow got drafted high and still failed actually proves the point that even the most successful (maybe arguable) college QB of all times could not overcome lack of passing game skills which were not developed because his coaches in HS and college were happy to win with him mostly running the ball. And hard as he tried he could not make up for that lack of development later, even working with best NFL passing coaches etc. So if Tebow could not develop these skills later in his football career what's the chance Dobbs or other lesser QB's who play similar style can do it?

Measured 6"2 at the combine...prolly close to what Dobbs measures...average arm.

Dobbs is tall. Closer to 6'4" than 6'2". Did you not listen to Andre Ware during the South Carolina broadcast? He said Dobbs is a hair below 6'4". And Ware's 6'2" so he must have felt Dobbs was more than an inch taller than him.

Dobbs has the measurables.
