Montana's Offense

After watching some of Montana's highlights , I feel more convinced that they just don't match up with the vols defensive strength and speed. Now if we come out sloppy and play like a bunch of fog headed punks , we could have some problems.

I don't doubt that. Last year being completely new offensive and defensive schemes, the team didn't look nearly as crisp as we traditionally are. With a year under their belts, everyone thinks they look much further along at this point than last year. Of course opening with UT is a tough way to start the new year.

There's a reason Montana was picked like #10 in FCS.....not that good. AF was different, they're D1 and better athletes and they always play everyone tough. This should be somewhat close to UT-Martin, although I think they'll at least score some points

When you play Montana you dont send a message even if you win by 60

You can send a negative message if you over look them and lose or get struggle. Lets hope neither happen and we destroy them. No more Wyoming type blunders...

I hope our guys feel differntly about that.

I understand there is a talent gap between the teams. However, they still can be shown how the big boys play ball.

It would be awful if we didn't give them a nice warm SEC welcome. :)

It's not going to be a 50-point margin. The Vegas line was somewhere in the high teens last time I checked.

I bet Montana scores at least twice.

Thanks for all the info. It seems that most think they are gonna be outclassed when it comes to talent. I read where they ran an option and immediately thought of our past troubles with it. Hopefully our new coaching staff will have us better prepared for it. I just hope we take them serious, funny things can happen in college football.

After watching the high-lights of some of the Grizz games from last year, it's gonna be a long day for ya'll. You beat N. Dakota by 10 and they went 3-8. You lost to Weber St. 30-21 and they went 6-5. You pulled out a last second win against Northern Arizona 24-21 another 6-5 team. I really admire your confidence in your team. You have to come to realize that you will not be playing one of these teams. You will be playing one of the Big Boys, an SEC team on the rise, with a running game and passing attack that you don't run into every week playing in the Big Sky. We will wear you down running the ball and open that up with an aerial assault that will leave you saying WOW!

I can't believe that their OL is bigger than ours.

we go:
6'5 305lbs Thomas
6'2 309lbs Bullard
6'3 308lbs Stone
6'5 330lbs Fulton
6'6 324lbs James

That is a huge OL imo. All sizes from UTsports.com

They are though. Only slightly but they are.

You are correct. Way too many close games with talent not close to UT's.

As I stated before, but not on this thread, the fans are hoping a lot of that was getting familiar with the new offense and defense.

This year will be a good indicator if Montana made a poor choice in a head coach for the first time in 15 years.

By the way, it is our 4th new coach in 15 years.

I've read that their o line is huge and athletic. They run an option offense. I'm wondering if anyone thinks they will give us trouble. I remember Air Force almost beat us with the option a few years ago. Hopefully the talent advantage and our improved coaching will shut them down.

i've got a feeling Brent Brewer is gonna knock somebody out in this game. He's been laying the wood in practice vs his own teammates, imagine what he'll do when the coaches really let him loose! If they insist on running the option i hope they have a lot of bodies cause Janzen and Brewer will be putting devastating hits on their backs.

Wez, While we do run on youth you can certainly believe CDD will have these boys ready to go come gametime :loco:

I for one, am over looking Montana. We're Tennessee, not Michigan and not V. Tech. Until we've lost a game to to a FCS team, I'm not going to worry about them. I'm just looking forward to the beat down. Now if it was Wyoming, I might be a little concerned:)

lol how?

we outweigh them at RT, RG, and C

their starting 5 and our starting 5 as a whole weight the exact same thing...1,576lbs

our DL will not be shocked by their size i promise you....their is no size advantage what so ever

i have watched Montana play here in chattanooga....they are usually a pretty sound team. They will hang around for the first half....if we play good we kill them in the 2nd half. If play just a so-so game it will be close..

I was thinking the same thing...

I know AF gave us some problems and it seems we have traditionally had issues defending this kind of offense. I could be wrong but I think Wilcox is more familiar with defending it.

I seem to be one of the few on here that think Wilcox will turn out to be an excellent DC. It's hard to judge this staff in general from last year based on stats and W's, but given the talent they were working with I think we have got some really good coaches.

I'm anxious to see everything come together once the coaches get the players they are wanting. It's already starting to happen, but we are certainly on the up & up.

I think CJW is an excellent coach and he will be able to do more things as he gets more/better players. However, I think we will see a much better performance with this year's team because we do have some better players and the freshman have at least a year's experience behind them. I'm really glad they hired Coach Wilcox. I hope we get to keep him for many years.

We will beat them by at least 36 pts unless Dooley puts in a lot of the subs in the 4th qtr, no disrespect but I just think Bray & Co will light it up. Yes, there will be a lot of running plays because Dooley wants to establish the run but I think the passing game will make some big plays (TDs).
