I’ve recently learned North Cacalacky or whatever the hell it is, refers to NC. But why the hell?

I’ve heard it was military slang, maybe by those condemned to the living hell known as Ft Bragg*/ Fayetteville, but I’ve no idea if that’s true. Or how Carolina morphed to Cackalacky.

*Fort Bragg NC, not Fort Bragg CA, which is lovely, although a bit desolate.
