MLB Draft Talk (July 13th 6pm EDT & July 14th 11:30am EDT)

We need Lefties out of the bullpen. So if Arvy starts, you probably want Blanco in the pen. But I'm guessing it's the opposite. Blanco starts, Arvy out of the pen, giving us, as lefties out of the pen, Arvy, Blaine Brown, Mark Hindy, and (hopefully) Appenzeller. Chandler Day is an incoming freshman LHP, but I don't think he's expected to contribute. William Haas is another, but he had TJ surgery.
Appenzeller has to be the top Midweek guy as of now right? Lets him develop and he can still get some weekend innings if needed. Biatto is also a big Freshman arm that will get some innings.

As I said, long odds. He just has big support in that organization, and lately they’ve expressed it directly. I’d say the percentage chances that he’s still here in 2030 are greater than 75%.
I know the St Louis connection, but I'm kind of surprised he has big support from them. The Cards think of themselves as very buttoned up, "play the game the right way," old fogie kind of people (that's kind of MLB in general but the Cards are a good example of it). TV's personality seems like it would wear thin on them pretty quickly.

Is there a realistic opportunity that either Bargo or Chapman return?

I suppose there is always an outside shot, but I’m not sure they are going to get the playing time they want if they do. Guys like Ford, Myatt, Abernathy, etc. are not going to sit on the bench nor should they.

Some of these kids are making poor decisions going pro after being drafted 6th round or higher. Like Manny Ramirez son Lucas last year got drafted like the 17th round and went pro instead of coming for a couple of years to Tennessee and get bigger and stronger and prove SEC level talent. He still might make it and hope he does but 17th round , come on. It's not like he needed the money.

Some kids just have no desire to be a student athlete and prefer to just play baseball instead of studying and going to class.

I agree. Some don't want to go to class for 3 years. The underwater basketweaving stuff is gone. You have to go to class as a freshman and be making grades along with staying in the dorms and going to tutoring every day your entire freshman year. That just does not appeal to some. TV does not yield on that stuff and compliance is not the ones you want to have on your back.

Could be wrong but I think Bargo, Chapman, and Peebles all move on.

They are in a tough spot with the roster crunch if they wanted to return. No guarantee of playing time with who is returning and coming in. And I don’t think at this point you cut loose a freshman to make room for one more year of any of them.

Love those guys but I think it’s smartest to start their pro career.

Whose spot is Bargo taking?
I don't know how to answer that question as our entire lineup is up for grabs. But Bargo being able to play 3B, 1B, corner OF and moonlight at C is a lot more valuable than people think. I know he struggled at the end of the season but dude was our cleanup hitter.

With all the said, I think he's gone. Just wouldn't be shocked if TV kept him around. He handled up and down playing time very well and is quite respected.

Great question if either make it. Maybe a lower ranked Freshman?

This will sound harsh, but with the roster crunch there really isn’t a spot for Bargo and Chapman. They were far too inconsistent at the plate last year. I doubt two former every day starters are coming back and accepting a role as a situational player. They probably need to just take the next step in the professional career.

I agree 100%. Ready for some new guys and they would not want to come back for a bench role.

Ive been looking all over for this, thank you.

Appenzeller, Ford, Myatt, and Estrada were my faves in this cycle. Grindlinger is such a good get. Cannot wait.
