Military discussion (split from BB thread)

I would also like to point out the FACT that the Navy hasnt done anything except act as a deterrant since WW2. The heroes are the jarheads and soldiers on the ground.

Spoken like someone without the slightest idea as to what he is talking about

Uhhhh, not sure if you know this, but jarheads and soldiers aren't the only ones actually on the ground. For the record, while I was in the Navy "not doing anything but acting as a deterrant since WW2", I served 14 months ON THE GROUND in Iraq. The heroes are not only jarheads and soldiers on the ground. There were LOTS of sailors (and a few zoomies too) ON THE GROUND working side-by-side with, the "jarhead and soldier heroes". Give me a break!

I appreciate the service but Brown has different options and it is totally irrelevant whether he could be holding an M-16. He could but how many of those carrying M-16's could carry the football at a Tennessee or USC?

uuuh you completely missed the point of that post.

The point was that most people on here are gving bb the excuse that he is "only 18" or "a little kid who misses mommy." Ok, whatever. You're 18-19 , time to grow up. Time to be a man. Mommy and coach Kiffin cant hold your hand forever.

Naval air components have been decisive repeatedly since WW2. Sea launched cruise missiles have been decisive and often the weapon of choice.

While I believe it is more heroic to face your enemy, the Navy has been FAR more than a deterrent. In fact, they have probably had more effect militarily than all the other branches combined since WW2.

PS- I was an Army guy... 11B.

It doesn't make the post relevant. Kids aren't homesick in the military? How many do you think would go back home if they could legally? My guess is a similar % as the football players if not higher. They also get paid. Are you saying all of those 18-19 year old soldiers are hardened warriors without any thoughts or feelings. Most football players honor their commitments, a few get homesick and leave because they can.

I hope thats the case.

You realize your comparing someone getting "homesick" in Iraq to someone getting "homesick" 3 states away at college.

my point was, service men/women had a choice to go into the military, and BB has his choice of schools. i was promised alot of things, like where i would be stationed, which i didnt get, and ended up in korea, but i didnt wine about it, i took what they gave me, was i home sick yes, but did i wine about it, NO. at least BB can go see his folks, and call them on the phone when he wants. let BB go, cause if he cant handle this, he wont be able to handle much in life. dont let the door hit ya. GBO

This shows ignorance , ever heard of the Seabees bud. The Navy is alot more than that. It amazes me listening to this crap, everyone who serves in the military to protect our freedoms during war time is a hero not just the ones you decide are.

THANKS TO ALL WHO SERVE!

You know your country is going down the ****ter when different branches of service are going at each other's throats. Can we all just get along? I appreciate each and everyone of you guys' contributions. Whether it was on sea, on land, or in the air, you did our country proud.

I served 4yrs in the army went in right after high school. They try & sell u on the college money, free meals, free living quarters, etc. I promise none of it is is all they make it seem. The food is not that great & for a single soldier the living conditions & pay is awful. With that being said I wouldn't trade anything for the experiences it gave me. U learn to appreciate alot of **** u normally wouldn't. Heat, food, a shower, simple **** u take for granted everyday. I think every person should have to serve at least 2yrs in some branch of service.

Totally agree. When I was 19 I was in the army stationed in Korea. Spent 8 months of my 14 months in country on the DMZ patrolling the North Korean boarder. BB is a baby, and I don't feel a bit sorry for him, after all, he could be in Irag carrying an M16, instead of being at Tennessee carrying a footbal. Cry me a handful, as a matter of fact don't, cause I don't care. Go Big Orange

I don't agree with compulsory service at all.

I also bought the snake oil from the recruiter and spent 4 years as a 19D...as you said, it's a line of BS, but I wouldn't trade the time I spent for anything...If it would be fair to my wife, I have no doubt I'd be back on the line in a Cav Troop.

Korea was my 1st duty station as well. I was at camp nimble a small base within a mile of camp Casey. Only 2 companies. I miss tdc sometimes.

that's crazy talk. TDC is now just an extension of Seoul anyway. Both suck.

would have been nice to get down there more than every 3d month or so, instead of being stuck in the hemherroid of the western corridor except for tdc maybe once a month.

I got to jagoff at CRC for my last 3 weeks before i ets'd because my squadron was in the field, Uijongbu was pretty decent too.

didn't expect to hear about Uijongbu today. Generally, the places to be are near the Air Force bases or Naval ports.

So i've heard, but my MOS kept me away from anywhere nice over there.

Living down south (ish) for that short time and participating in their grueling 5k ruck one of those mornings at PT made me glad as hell i wasnt a REMF.

Best verbal exchange ever....

ME: Lets go, close it up

Fatass refridgerator mechanic or whatever: ummm errr um

me: you arent seriously going to fall out of a 3 mile walk are you?

FRM: Sergeant, I think i need to change my socks...

I guess I shouldnt have been surprised seeing the Oprah impersenator he had as a section sergeant.

Off topic, but BPV how does the NCO/EM structure work in an air cav troop?

It seems that every time I went to Stanton where the mosquitos of 4/7 were bsed i'd just keep my right hand pressed against my forehead saying "out front, sir" for all the commisioned guys and chiefs.

With Americas Cavalry Regiment the flight guys were at the airfield so i never got any idea.

When you're trained to feel like you're the baddest MFer on the planet, that'll happen. Don't know from experience, just a gut feeling.
