Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

The word "spread" really does confuse come people doesnt it. They both run a spread because they do not use a traditional fullback or TE in their formations. They go from the shotgum. And if they use a TE he is usually off the line. Now from that point, after the snap Florida and Texas Tech plays look nothing alike.

It will not improve his stock in my eyes. Many others feel the same way. But, yes, the bandwagon will continue to fill up quickly if he beats OU. OU's defense is bad enough that he has a shot to win the game. But it doesnt prove much. If they make it to NCG and defeat Florida then you can call me about changing his stock in my eyes.

And, as to him not leaving. You must be smoking something strong to think he would not use a NC as an opportunity to get out of Lubbock.

I agree with that. :good!:

1. Passion - Tech has some good, very passionet fans but Tennessee has a greater amount of passionet fans. These people love college football more so than Tech fans.

2. Money - Tennessee can pay top dollar for a coach and will do it. Tech can make Mike Leach's contract better, but if they got into a bidding war I see Tennessee winning the battle.

3. Tradition - Say Tech goes on to win a NC this year, they will still be decades behind Tennessee when it comes to wins and rivalrys.

4. Prestige - Face it Tennessee is a more prestigous job even though its probably not looked at the same way as Florida and Alabama is today. Tennessee is the program in their state. Tech will always be playing secound fiddle to Texas and Texas A&M not matter how many NC they win.

5. Conference - The SEC is mecca to the college football world. Fans in the south don't have many pro-teams and people cling to college teams. The big 12 this year is as good as it has ever been. And it probably is better than the SEC this year. But the SEC will be the best conference 9 out 10 years. Leach might want to compete in the best conference.

All of this is just my opinion and people might not agree with it. I hate Tennessee (mainly because of Phil) but if I got a choice to coach at Tennessee or Tech ill go with Tennessee.

read this on another board and thought it was interesting

and the rebuttal....

5 Reasons Why Mike Leach Stays:

Passion: Since there is no way to actually base this. I will go ahead and say that Tech fans are more passionate because they have me and I'm the most passionate fan in the world. I'm more passionet that 100 thousand Tennessee fans.

Money: Tennessee might have more but they were only paying a guy who had a national title and 2 SEC conference titles 2.4 million. Now all of a sudden they are going to just up and pay 3.4 - 4.0 million? That's interesting.

Tradition: Yes they have Tradition but they also have a tradition of Firing coaches that were in the SEC title game a year ago. They have a tradition of lofty expectations. They have a tradition of goold old boys that want coaches to cater to them and do what they say. Tradition they have. Tech has a tradition of Leaving leach alone. Leach is creating his own Tradition and building his own program.

Prestige: To you and me prestige might matter. To coach Leach it might not. Tech righ tnow has already past A&M and who knows what happens down the road. We can compete. We can recruit and he can be successful where he is at.

Conference: The BIG 12 and SEC have just as many national titles since the creation of the BCS. Football is big in the south, but Football is KING in the state of Texas.

Bonus reasons:

He looked for an extension because he wants to stay at Tech. He wanted to solidify his situation there. He will get the extension he was looking for.

Leach's own words on rumors:

"We go through this every year," he said Tuesday. "It’s a yearly ritual, and it’s a yearly waste of time. I don’t worry about any of it, and I don’t think of responses to tell them. I just think about the next game and the next practice."

In response to rexvol's post from another board.

I lived in and around Knoxville for 17 years, and I am a die hard Vol fan. I moved to Lubbock in 1996. I have flaunted/supported the Vols every year since then. Tech fans are pretty cool and love football of any kind. The poster stated that UT fans love football more than Tech. In no way is that true, and I seriously doubt that he/she has ever been here. Unless your in the medical field or in the oil or cotton business, or to attend Tech, there is not much reason to come here.

To get to the point. I think the difference between Tech and Vol fans is the passion not the love of vol/tech football. In knoxville it is a event every Saturday. Here in Lubbock it is just another day to watch football.
As Rexvol stated football is KING. They really love football here in Texas, as they should.

it isnt the same kind of spread that Florida runs though right ? its a different kind..
it wouldn't require the QB running as much as what Florida uses, and other type of spread offenses
His offense has been called the 'Space' instead of the spread because of the extra space between the lineman. This causes the defense to spread out and allows more gaps for the QB to throw through plus more holes for the running backs. I think it's a brillant offense that causes a lot of confusion on the defense and yet not that hard for the offense to learn.

i liked the comments at the bottom, they all seem like its a done deal there that he's coming to UT, I hope they know something we dont here at VN.

Approximately 1 month ago coach Leach leaked his name out along with the information that he would be interested in the Tenn job if it came open this year. This according to a former Baylor football player that I work with right now, he still is connected, very well, to the goings on in the Bix XII...anyway coach Briles at Baylor has in his contract that if the Texas Tech job ever came open he can leave Baylor for that job without having to buy his way out. He's a Tech grad and its pretty much his dream job. So I would say if Leach left Briles would take over at Tech

If Hamilton doesn't work the Krystal angle he is no negotiator and should be let go.

I say its has to be Leach. No matter how great a recruiter we get we still will not out recruit or have better players than Fl, LSU,and BAMA. We get a great recruiter and we can match them. If our class is #1 they will still be top ten if not top five. I think Leach will get great classes on facilities, tradition and his offense. Since we won't out talent our competition we need someone who can out scheme the competition. Thats why I think he is the best candidate.

Based upon his national exposure this year, offensive players will be knocking his door down to play in this system. Doing it on national TV every week in the SEC will only make it that much easier to attract them.

No more relying on 2 and 3 star recruits for Leach if he is here, and he knows it.

I love this thread....I think Leach will bring so much to the table if he gets the job here at UT. We wont need to worry about not having great recruits here in TN, he will still have some clout pulling quality players from TX.

Actually, we have outrecruited Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU etc... numerous times in the past. The problem has been developing said talent, which I contend we have been AWFUL at. We have gotten and will get superior talent again, lets actually do something with it this time.
