Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

I'm officially on the Leach bandwagon. Of all the supposed candidates, I think he'd bring the most excitement to our program -- plus, his offbeat personality would draw a lot of attention to us, as well. His name doesn't have as much bang as Gruden or Cowher, but those guys aren't coming here. Kiffin is a possibility, but he's a little young for my taste. Davis is a guy on the downward slope of his career, and (IMO) is more of the same. If not Leach, then I'd be up for giving Kelly a shot.

Ok here is a question, what recruits would we lose if we bring in Mike Leach? Obviously Oku because he does not want a spread offense, but im sure Boyd, Stokes and others would want to play in this pass heavy offense.

it isnt the same kind of spread that Florida runs though right ? its a different kind..
it wouldn't require the QB running as much as what Florida uses, and other type of spread offenses

can you imagine the stock Leach will have? His interest among UT fans will go up several notches for sure.

...I think I may be one of them.

And that just makes it even more likely that Tech tries to break the bank to keep him. The last thing we need is to have to pay him Saban-like money

It is a variant of the spread, but it is more pass heavy. He "spreads" the field more. His lineman will use 3 and 4 foot splits and the system is heavily dependent on the WR position. Leach has said his philosophy with WR is he views them as raffle tickets, the more you have, the better shot you have of hitting it big. His offense looks really complex, but is in fact really simple. While watching the OSU game, all of his plays fit on what looked like a napkin, but the different formations and spreading the ball to different recievers is what makes it look complex and hard to defend. I've heard he doesn't actually have a "playbook", just a system that once learned can be used to run a wide variety of plays. The whole system is based on the QB being able to effectively go through his progression...something he has shown he can coach probably better than anybody in the country.

It won't do a whole lot to change my position on him...but, if he wins that game and a Big 12 championship, he'll likely be able to write his ticket to any head coaching vacancy that he wants.

And put Texas Tech in the position of having to bid for a coach already on the payroll. Makes me wonder, after '98 if others came callin for CPF what the threads would've been like.

They're going to have to lose before he will leave. If they get in the NC game he won't leave imo.

It will not improve his stock in my eyes. Many others feel the same way. But, yes, the bandwagon will continue to fill up quickly if he beats OU. OU's defense is bad enough that he has a shot to win the game. But it doesnt prove much. If they make it to NCG and defeat Florida then you can call me about changing his stock in my eyes.

And, as to him not leaving. You must be smoking something strong to think he would not use a NC as an opportunity to get out of Lubbock.
