Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

First, Tennessee pays over a million dollars more to Fulmer than Leach gets. Secondly, UT has better facilities than TT, a bigger fan base, and is in the SEC.
Most people consider the Big-12 to be better than the SEC this year. Leach has shown he can put a great offense on the field at Kentucky, at Oklahoma, now at Texas Tech. I think we would be consistent winners with him as head coach. Muschamp, on the other hand, has zero head coach experience.

As far as the new Tennessee head coach is concerned, Leach, Mendenhall, and Chris Petersen are the three guys we could get that are qualfied. Cowher, Gruden, Stoops, Butch Davis are great choices but realistically we probably cannot get them.

Plus it looks like TTAD already has financial issues.... See attached about Mike Leach's contract negotiations.

There has been plenty of talk about whether Mike Leach would be a good fit at Tennessee. Given how Texas Tech looks, do you think he would even consider leaving for Tennessee? It seems like he has it made in Texas Tech for the time being.

He was at UK before, so its not like he has anything against the SEC, but I don't see Hamilton hiring such an eccentric coach.

Pearl is energetic, but he doesn't go off about pirates or anything weird like that.

I think leaving Lubbock for Knoxville is a no-brainer.

That said, I don't think that's a decison that Leach will have an opportunity to consider.

If the money is right, I absolutely think he would leave. He makes 1.75 Mill there, so I would guess a $3 Million offer would get his attention.

Our defense and his offense would be the best combo in the country, the Texas recruiting connections couldn't hurt either.

After watching the game Saturday I'd take him in Knoxville. You would think he could get any QB he wanted for his offense in the best conference in the nation. I do think in the SEC he would have to establish more a running game but other than that I'd take him and let someone else run the defense and special teams.

I wouldn't be totally against it. He isn't the top of my list but at this point, I am not sure who is.

I'm slowly coming around to Mike Leach. He has history with Chris Hatcher, who i think will be a great HC and OC someday. We would need to bring in a very solid DC. Kevin Steele would be a great choice if we could get him to come back. I might even consider keeping Chavis if Steele came.

Good grief.....

It would be an easy decision in my mind. There is no way Tech can compete with UT financially or facilities wise.

Even before the game the game vs. Texas I was wondering if Leach's name would get brought up. He is definitely someone who would be totally different than what we have had. The thing that impressed me the most the other night was how well they mixed in the run in that Spread and how dominant their O-line was against a very good texas d-line. I've never been one for gimmicky offenses (i.e. Spread option) I'm more of a pro-style hit you in the mouth and then hit you deep fan (USC, Bama, LSU, UGA), but after watching TTU i'm starting to think that Leach could be a good guy for us to go after. I'm w/ AndyKelly as far as the Texas recruiting connections, that is very important in my opinion, which is why I'm a big fan of Leach or Muschamp w/ his LSU and Auburn connections.

Only reason he wouldn't is b/c Harrell and Crabtree are sophomores. If he doesn't win a NC this year, then he definitely will have a shot next year. i say he stays at TT because of that. I'd take him over any other up and comer (peterson, kelly, mendenhall, etc).

Great win on Sat night but I don't think he's the right guy for us at all. Personality wise, scheme wise, the whole bit.

in my honest opinion, he would not leave Lubbock, it is similar to the situation Bob Knight had over at TT. I just think he is content in the western Texas region and content with his players and his staff. He is not looking to move.

I think we need to know that not every one is looking to move because of money.

We should be especially thankful for that mindset looking at Coach Pearl, or he would be at IU at 4.5 million/year

Leach is at the top of my short list right now, but I just don't see him leaving Texas Tech. We may try to give him a lot a money, but I think he will get a big raise from Tech.
