I like Muschamp, still do. He did take a hit tonight but I'm not jumping off his bandwagon.

leach is for real.. in tech last 4 recruitng classes they have a combined 5 4 stars and the rest 3 stars or worse... he is maximizing his talent at tech like crazy...imagine wat he would do here

Texas D has given up 30+ three times this year.

Leach + Chavis might be good.

Yep but Kentucky in those days had no defense...Leach is for real...I am impressed

I never was on his bandwagon, His defenses have been hit hard the past few weeks...Let him go to Clemson and get some head coaching experience...He's not the answer here at all.

Leach would put 700 yds of offense on Chavis. When he was at Kentucky, I remember them racking up around 600 yds against us while we did the same to them with Peyton Manning. We really never stopped them,, we always had to outscore them.

Leach vs. Chavis = Leach wins no contest. Muschamp is a much better coordinator than Chavis.

I just wonder how those recievers get so open, and the QB has so much time to make a seemingly easy throw to a reciever on the run for a nice gain after the catch....

We sure as hell won't get Muschamp as DC since everyone seems so hot for him as a HC.

Again, he has given up 30 three times this year. Let 'em have him.

How good would our D be this year if they played less than 30 minutes per game?

I wondered the same thing. Coaching obviously played a major role. As TN125 mentioned in a previous post Kentucky did the same thing in the late 90's. Almost identical offenses in fact. It's almost impossible to stop. Other teams have to out score you. BUT, if you have an average or better defense, you'll win most of your games.

Watching Texas Tech tonight made sort of wish we could get Mike Leach. His team played aggressively all night long. Players seem to pay with a sense of urgency instead of standing around thinking about how many stars they got as a recruit. Even after Texas scored late there was no panic on the Tech sidelines. Apparently Mike Leach can recruit too.

Recruiting is what worries me the most about Muschamp. I think he might turn off a lot of recruits with his personality. You never know how someone is going to handle that aspect of a big time program until they are in charge of one.

I'm still not sure about Leach. His offenses do look good, but here are my reservations:

1. The Big 12 is not exactly a defensive minded conference this year. In fact, my observations is that there are no solid D's in the league. I don't have any official stats, so it's possible that I'm wrong, but it seems like even the losers put up 30+ at an alarming rate.

2. Kentucky 97-98= Mumme Ball. makes a UK fan even more fond of the Rich Brooks era.

3. Texas Tech is solid, but they played Texas at the perfect time, who were coming off of what could be the most brutal stretch in the country- the fourth top ten team in a row with no off week? That's tough for anyone to keep up the intensity.

4. To add on to point 2. If we were interested in Leach, then why the negativity towards Mike Martz?

5. He has an undefeated BCS team, which will undoubtedly jump into the top 3 after beating Texas. Why would he leave for us if he's comfortable there? TT has more resources than a non BCS team.

6. Right now, he is the coach of the #1 team in Texas, which arguably has the most high school talent in the country.

7. How would his offense mesh with our qbs, and more importantly, Tajh Boyd?

First, Tennessee pays over a million dollars more to Fulmer than Leach gets. Secondly, UT has better facilities than TT, a bigger fan base, and is in the SEC.

Most people consider the Big-12 to be better than the SEC this year. Leach has shown he can put a great offense on the field at Kentucky, at Oklahoma, now at Texas Tech. I think we would be consistent winners with him as head coach. Muschamp, on the other hand, has zero head coach experience.

As far as the new Tennessee head coach is concerned, Leach, Mendenhall, and Chris Petersen are the three guys we could get that are qualfied. Cowher, Gruden, Stoops, Butch Davis are great choices but realistically we probably cannot get them.

Just a reminder on Leach and Patterson (both fine coaches for sure)...they coach and recruit in the state of Texas. Would either be able, if by some wild chance one or the other would leave and come to Knoxville, be able to recruit to the level they do now?

I would be more comfortable with Leach. Coach Knight endorsed him a few years back and like him or not he knows a little about coaching and coaches. Leach was a regular attendee at TTech basketball practices, one season bringing a lot of his players to practices so they could see Coach Knight in action. I guess he thought he would not look quite as intense after they observed CBK (as that was a concern at one time at TT, i.e. Leach being too intense).
