Mike Leach, if hired, would be a foolish move on UT’s part

That's what the fools on this board said when urban went to Florida.

Amazing how idiotic and stupid some of our fanbase is- Leach takes T Tech to no 2 rankin in 2008 or 9-Wins in horrible places with inferior talent. Mind boggling, should have been number 2 on list after Gruden. Lets not get a coach that can develop talent OK? JJJEEEEZZZZ

Mike Leach facts:
number 4 on list of most UNDER paid, per performance coach in 2017 Brohm, riley Campbell ahead of him
122-80 overall
38-37 Wash State 26-11 last 3 yrs
84-43 TT
Maybe not perfect but better than 0-0 as head coach

We would be extremely foolish to hire Leach. Not sure if anyone remembers a 3 game stretch where his offense ran the ball little at all. You must run in the SEC. Saban isn’t lighting up the scoreboard w/ an air assault, Auburn, nope not pass heavy either.. Georgia, you guessed it, dependent on the run... w/ Mike Leach you won’t be bringing in the Kamara’s Kelly’s, & Chandler’s of the world....Really hoping UT goes another direction here, because 3 - 5 years & we’ll be right back here.

I see you had 10 idiots that liked your post

walsh and seifert won 5 super bowl's with west coast o coaching the 49'ers. Spurrier was an sec disrupter at fl with the fun-n-gun (west coast o evolved). Leach's system is further evolution of same o. Stoops won 2000 natty with leach's o. Give him our program history/stature (and we still have that), resources and facilities, and let's see what he can do.

From nyt article on leach (page not found:

"a lot of the players in the locker room had similar stories of rejection and redemption. In this part of the country, the university of texas and oklahoma university are the old-money football schools, with texas a.&m. Right behind. Those schools fish first in the local-talent pool. Tonight there would be very few players on the field for texas a.&m. -- for oklahoma or texas there wouldn't be a single player -- to whom texas tech would not have offered a football scholarship. Conversely, the texas tech locker room was filled with players rejected by the old-money schools. And yet -- look around! Hodges led all of college football in passing. The team's tailback, taurean henderson, had broken the n.c.a.a. Career record for most passes caught by a running back. The top four receivers on the team were the four leading pass receivers in texas tech's league, the formidable big 12."

----

"mike leach had become the texas tech head coach before the 2000 season, and from that moment its quarterbacks were transformed into superstars. In leach's first three seasons, he played a quarterback, kliff kingsbury, who wound up passing for more yards than all but three quarterbacks in the history of major college football. When kingsbury graduated (he is now with the new york jets), he was replaced by a fifth-year senior named b.j. Symons, who threw 52 touchdown passes and set a single-season college record for passing yards (5,833). The next year, symons graduated and was succeeded by another senior -- like symons, a fifth-year senior, meaning he had sat out a season. The new quarterback, who had seldom played at tech before then, was sonny cumbie, and cumbie's 4,742 passing yards in 2004 was the sixth-best year in n.c.a.a. History."

and...

"the year before he arrived, kentucky's quarterback passed for 967 yards. In leach's first year, his quarterback, tim couch, threw for 3,884 yards; the year after that, couch, who lasted for only a few disappointing years in the n.f.l., threw for 4,275 yards. After kentucky, leach moved to oklahoma for a single season, 1999. That year oklahoma went from 101st to 8th in the country in offensive scoring. Its quarterback, josh heupel, passed for 3,850 yards that season, which was 1,700 more than any quarterback in oklahoma football history had thrown for in a season. The next year, running leach's offense, oklahoma won the national championship -- but by then texas tech had picked up the pattern and hired leach to run its team."

boom! 💥

WNML is having a meltdown this morning over the possibility of this hire...its hilarious! They were all against Tee Martin, now all of a sudden, they are all in for him. Not surprising.

Hard to believe. I figured Tyler and Heather would be doing their usual hard hitting analysis discussing route trees and line splits in the Air Raid.

Leach is not a winner by any stretch. 16 years and never won a conference. Lets be real here.

Washington State won 9 games combined in 4 years before Leach. 38 in the 6 years after. He didn't win the conference, you're right. But he made that program significantly better.

Oh, you mean run the ball like Steve Spurrier at Florida.

love how people are arguing over this potential hire.

as if it's a choice. lol.

when you take all things in to consideration, this is the first thing they've done that makes any semblance of sense since they fired Butch.

some of you arguing over whether or not this guy can win a championship....lol.

that ship sailed the moment Haslam gave Currie the marching orders to go get Schiano.

embrace the pirate. this would, at least, be a ton of fun.

If you are ok with 7-5 and never beating Georgia, Florida, Alabama and the average score will be about 55-10 Leach is your guy. If you want to score 50 on Vandy but give up 42, Leach is your guy. He is a lunatic I will not support him if this happens

You remember the game when Peyton had to score like 59 to beat Kentucky because our 1 loss Defense couldn't stop freaking Kentucky? Yes that was Mike Leach OC at Kentucky that hung half a hundred on us. We had Al Wilson, John Henderson ETC... Our defense had like 9 guys get drafted and he shredded them like melted cheese!

STOP BEING STUPID PEOPLE! Mike Leach would be a huge Home Run!

Hard-hitting, spot-on, juicy, spicy hot take here.

you're blaming the coach for all this...that's literally 10th on the list?

wake up. whatever happens, none of this is leach's fault.

he deserves 100% of the fan support, just for potentially saying yes to this dumpster fire.

save your "i won't support" for the currie's and haslams of the world, that's who deserves your disdain.

I won't support any of them, I will be 100% out on UT football. There are better options out there

As the person below you said, tell that to all Wilson who got worked by Leach's offense at KENTUCKY. Get Leach a good DC and watch magical things happen on the hill.

No not a Florida, Bama, or Georgia fan... born & raised in TN been a vol fan my entire life. Just because I refuse to think like you doesn’t make me any less of a Vol fan. You can feel free to attack me all you want. I’m simply stating a fact. Leach went through a 3 game stretch w/ very few run plays. I simply think it’s a bad idea & he’s a bad fit for UT.

"Leach is one of the greatest offensive minds of our era" a quote from Bob Stoops.
So I think he can figure it out.
Or shall we go to Majors policy?

First post on a forum I've followed for years. If UT hires Leach..............they've fired a career 8-5 guy, given him $8 million for the trouble, and hired another career 8-5 guy. Will anyone feel like that's a success? :hi:

Leach would be the furthest thing from stable. I’m not interested in consistently beating Vandy & UK... that should be a given. I’m more interested in consistently competing w/ UGA, Florida & dare I say Bama. Not worrying about championships is why we are where we are.

Do you understand where the program is right at this moment? We passed dumpster fire and moved to towering inferno two coaching rejections ago. This isn't about winning championships at the moment, it's about getting back to the point of relevance. You want championships, and we just lost to SC, UK, and Vandy.

If Leach does nothing more over the next 3-4 seasons than get us to a consistent 8-10 wins and back in the mix competing in the conference, he's done his job and set us up for a home run hire. Anything beyond that is gravy at this point.

Mike Leach =s 2 & 3 star RBs & WRs running 2 & 3 yard routes, throwing the ball 40+ times a game, and getting beat by 40 on the regular in the SEC, DO NOT WANT.

I am very curious if Currie will announce the new coach at the press conference or have someone else do it, like would he actually show up to a room full of Vols people knowing where he was
