That's what the fools on this board said when urban went to Florida.
We would be extremely foolish to hire Leach. Not sure if anyone remembers a 3 game stretch where his offense ran the ball little at all. You must run in the SEC. Saban isnt lighting up the scoreboard w/ an air assault, Auburn, nope not pass heavy either.. Georgia, you guessed it, dependent on the run... w/ Mike Leach you wont be bringing in the Kamaras Kellys, & Chandlers of the world....Really hoping UT goes another direction here, because 3 - 5 years & well be right back here.
walsh and seifert won 5 super bowl's with west coast o coaching the 49'ers. Spurrier was an sec disrupter at fl with the fun-n-gun (west coast o evolved). Leach's system is further evolution of same o. Stoops won 2000 natty with leach's o. Give him our program history/stature (and we still have that), resources and facilities, and let's see what he can do.
From nyt article on leach (page not found:
"a lot of the players in the locker room had similar stories of rejection and redemption. In this part of the country, the university of texas and oklahoma university are the old-money football schools, with texas a.&m. Right behind. Those schools fish first in the local-talent pool. Tonight there would be very few players on the field for texas a.&m. -- for oklahoma or texas there wouldn't be a single player -- to whom texas tech would not have offered a football scholarship. Conversely, the texas tech locker room was filled with players rejected by the old-money schools. And yet -- look around! Hodges led all of college football in passing. The team's tailback, taurean henderson, had broken the n.c.a.a. Career record for most passes caught by a running back. The top four receivers on the team were the four leading pass receivers in texas tech's league, the formidable big 12."
----
"mike leach had become the texas tech head coach before the 2000 season, and from that moment its quarterbacks were transformed into superstars. In leach's first three seasons, he played a quarterback, kliff kingsbury, who wound up passing for more yards than all but three quarterbacks in the history of major college football. When kingsbury graduated (he is now with the new york jets), he was replaced by a fifth-year senior named b.j. Symons, who threw 52 touchdown passes and set a single-season college record for passing yards (5,833). The next year, symons graduated and was succeeded by another senior -- like symons, a fifth-year senior, meaning he had sat out a season. The new quarterback, who had seldom played at tech before then, was sonny cumbie, and cumbie's 4,742 passing yards in 2004 was the sixth-best year in n.c.a.a. History."
and...
"the year before he arrived, kentucky's quarterback passed for 967 yards. In leach's first year, his quarterback, tim couch, threw for 3,884 yards; the year after that, couch, who lasted for only a few disappointing years in the n.f.l., threw for 4,275 yards. After kentucky, leach moved to oklahoma for a single season, 1999. That year oklahoma went from 101st to 8th in the country in offensive scoring. Its quarterback, josh heupel, passed for 3,850 yards that season, which was 1,700 more than any quarterback in oklahoma football history had thrown for in a season. The next year, running leach's offense, oklahoma won the national championship -- but by then texas tech had picked up the pattern and hired leach to run its team."
WNML is having a meltdown this morning over the possibility of this hire...its hilarious! They were all against Tee Martin, now all of a sudden, they are all in for him. Not surprising.

If you are ok with 7-5 and never beating Georgia, Florida, Alabama and the average score will be about 55-10 Leach is your guy. If you want to score 50 on Vandy but give up 42, Leach is your guy. He is a lunatic I will not support him if this happens
you're blaming the coach for all this...that's literally 10th on the list?If you are ok with 7-5 and never beating Georgia, Florida, Alabama and the average score will be about 55-10 Leach is your guy. wake up. whatever happens, none of this is leach's fault.
he deserves 100% of the fan support, just for potentially saying yes to this dumpster fire.
save your "i won't support" for the currie's and haslams of the world, that's who deserves your disdain.

No not a Florida, Bama, or Georgia fan... born & raised in TN been a vol fan my entire life. Just because I refuse to think like you doesnt make me any less of a Vol fan. You can feel free to attack me all you want. Im simply stating a fact. Leach went through a 3 game stretch w/ very few run plays. I simply think its a bad idea & hes a bad fit for UT.
Leach would be the furthest thing from stable. Im not interested in consistently beating Vandy & UK... that should be a given. Im more interested in consistently competing w/ UGA, Florida & dare I say Bama. Not worrying about championships is why we are where we are.
