Mike Leach accepted the UT Job, then we withdrew the offer... Let that sink in

How long before Leach is spotted at Calhouns on the river, having a private lunch with Fulmer? Where’s the guy that gave us cryptic messages about what kind of wine Gruden drinks on the golf course? Maybe he can weigh in? My guess is Leach is a landshark kinda guy.
🤪
GBO!!

Yep, pisses me off every time I think about it. Then I have to read comments from the dips*it section of the fanbase "He can't do that here 'cause SEC, SEC, SEC". Same morons said the same thing about Spurrier and Urban Meyer.

I also remember those “air raid” teams at UK. Didn’t exactly set the SEC on fire.

Kentucky was awful before Mumme. Leach was OC and they put up crazy numbers.

As HC at WSU he hired a solid DC in Grinch and arguably the worst power 5 program won ten games. Grinch was hired away.

Petrino won lots of games at Arkansas with a similar offense.

That’s great for the Leach side. But given the timeline, Currie didn’t have an offer to make as the admin was looking for him because they didn’t know where he was. Currie didn’t have the authority to hire Leach at the time. He was a dead man walking and was on his out. He woulda been fired before going to Leach had the admin known his location

Yes, Currie was working as the official rep for UT at that time. We were lucky Leach didn't sue us.

Yes I like watching exciting offenses. Are you saying Butch Jones and Leach are the same coach?

I'm saying they love trickery and finese more than traditional hard nosed football. High scoring games I don't like. There's no defense involved. it's like the shot clock in basketball...i hate it. It doesn't hold my attention. A 58 to 52 game is out of control.

The best baseball game is a one to nothing pitchers duel. Hockey....two to one....hard checking, hustling game. Basketball? I quit it with the three point shot gimmick and the shot clock. I don't have to have high scoring games to appreciate the fundamentals of a sport.

Had a lot of “luck” during that coaching search. I always wondered what happened to that $20 mil all of the legal experts on here and VQ guaranteed would have to be forked out to Schiano. 😏

Matthew Scoggins, General Counsel for the Tennessee: “Sorry I’ve been in meeting and still am. We are going to take a couple of days and regroup on our search. It has nothing to do with Coach Leach. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.”

Matt O’Hagan, Leach’s agent: “Thanks Matt, the people we worked with the past two days who are associated with the Vols search were professional and thorough. We negotiated earnestly and in good faith and feel we had reached and agreed to a deal. We hope that UT sees the tremendous value in having Mike Leach as their football coach. He is disciplined and innovate, attributes which has led to great success on the field and in the classroom.”

Texts between Leach's agent and the UT attorney in the wake of Currie being fired. They had agreed to a deal. Fulmer nixed it. We got cornbread and 3 points vs Florida in year 2.

And hes doing it at poverty programs. You give him Neyland, a better athlete, a faster athlete, and the Power T, I dont see how he wouldn't win 10 games every year here
Only thing we don’t want to give any coach is TIME. At WSU it took him 5 years to get his program off the ground!

WSU was in much much much worse shape than UT has ever been in it's history. WSU is Indiana, Vandy etc.

Nothing indicating anything had been signed and no recognition of ANY kind of agreement from UT’s side. Unauthorized rep cannot make an AGREEMENT. There was no “deal” made to be nixed.

Is that rumor confirmed? They also had a deal with Gruden but Haslam supposedly stepped in and killed that one, so who to believe.

Good grief, I've said it before and I'll say it again: Do you really believe these players, who are having trouble figuring out how to run a basic vanilla high school offense, and line up correctly, could learn Mike Leach's system? What do you think we would go through during the three or four years it took them to figure it out?

Vol fans wouldn't be happy with 10 wins a year. They would find something to gripe about.

Thank God his offer was withdrawn. We dodged the biggest mistake possible, as it turns out, worse than the Dooley hire,
