back in the Dooley era

"You're my team and I love you. But you're terrible. You're all terrible."

(Took me a second. I thought that was a Coach McGurk line at first :) )

We were spoiled with Ward. He was an expert at his craft. What is funny is listening to Atlanta radio the sports station host talk about Kesling in glowing fashion. One was saying they like to tune in and listen to the great radio broadcasters in college football and included Kesling in their list. Are we jaded because of Ward?

Yes. That and some people will complain about anything.

I really wish Kessling would call the down and distance more often, and he can butcher a name like no other. But I still like him. Partly because I remember him as one of the Bowl Bros. on WBIR when I was a kid and just learning what Tennessee Football was all about, and partly because I believe his blood runs orange.

This thread pretty much proves you can't please everyone, all the time. Especially when it comes to who the Voice of the Vols is.

It would help to get a Birtlecamp (sp?) Type guy in football. Kesling does a better job in basketball than football. Berts calls the other night against UK was priceless! I always listen to the radio if I'm not at the road games. Home games I'm always there. Keith would do much better in football... Had Moore fire!

Tim Priest is the Bertelkamp type guy in football.

That is where I got my handle from... I always thought that was a funny gag. I liked Bob on WBIR. He just isn't suited for being a radio announcer.

Did you see the Bowl Brothers bit with Coach Jimmy Johnson after the 1986 season?

Edit: Actually the JJ segment was probably after the 1989 season when TN was in the Cotton Bowl and Johnson was coaching the Cowboys.

Bob does a good job,his problem is that he has to replace Mr Ward

he is great at basketball and just good at football

Is it time for Bob to retire yet?

How great would it be to have Mike Keith as the Voice of the Vols and the Titans?

That's would be impossible due to travel of both teams

If I only had access to the radio for a UT game and John Ward was broadcasting the game it's as if you were at the game watching live. With the same circumstances and Kesling calling it I'm sometimes confused, very frustrating. Ward was the best.

Following a legend is a formulae for failure. I like Bob OK but I very seldom listen to a Vols game on radio.
