Mike Hamilton Says

The question you have to ask is this:

Who would I rather be the coach at Florida? Chip Kelly or Frost?

To me, it’s Frost. Kelly at Florida is a nightmare for Tennessee. Frost? Maybe, maybe not.

My gut says don’t hire him. I don’t care how good he’s doing at UCF.

I’d rather Gruden, Les Miles, Chip Kelly, or Dan Mullen before Frost.

I don’t have to Google him. I know him personally and have been following him since HS for 12 years. Clark broke 49 school records at Jacksonville State in his only year there before moving to UAB. Let that sink in. One season at a school that has been playing football a long long time. Now he’s 7-3 with no star players on a UAB team that hasn’t existed for 2 years.

Thanks for the pertinent information. Just reading all these entertaining posts when, suddenly...yours appears with knowledge & real information. I may stroke out. :hi:

Some interesting background on Scott Frost. (yeah, I was bored)

When he was a junior in High School, coached by his dad AND mom, he never came off the football field, playing offense, defense, and yes trumpet, in the band at halftime.

His mom was a world class athlete and '68 Olympian in the discus who won a Gold the year before at the Pan-American games. She coached the Nebraska women's track team for 3 years after which she left to help her husband (who played football at Nebraska also) coach the high school football team, one of only 2 women at the time in the country. She continues to compete internationally in her 70's and has a age-group world record in the javelin.

Scott is extremely close to his parents and they live an hour from Lincoln. He's slated to get married in the spring.

He initially played football at Stanford, following in his brother's footsteps, before transferring to Nebraska to play for Tom Osborne, where he won a National Championship.

It's certainly easy to see why he's such a great coach, having been coached as a player by Osborne, Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Bill Bellichick, and Jon Gruden.

He started out as a defensive coach and became a DC in his 2nd year at N. Iowa leading them to 4th in the FCS. He then started coaching under Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich at Oregon in 2009 going from WRs to OC/QBs. When he left in 2016 to take the UCF job, Oregon fell apart under Helfrich.

Reading on the Nebraska boards, it seems they are fairly confident that he's coming there, but realize that Florida most likely, but Tennessee as well, could be an obstacle to securing him. They're way more concerned about Florida, since he lives just an hour and half down the road.

Thought this was interesting:

The knock on Florida (from the Nebraska fans perspective) is Spurrier and Foley still meddling, the lack of patience of the fanbase, the needed facilities upgrades, and the intense competition now for recruits.

Let's face it, if Nebraska called and offered him, it would be extremely hard for him to turn them down. They asked Bear Bryant why he left Texas AM to go to his alma mater in '58 and he said “Momma called. And when Momma calls, you just have to come runnin'.” The same could be said for Frost.

So his mother only won gold at the PanAm games? NOT the Olympics?

Ugh. Do. Not. Want.

I'm telling you if we end up with Frost we lucked into the next big time coach.

I get alot of you are saying well he's beating a bunch of no bodies and his conference is weak. Level of competition etc. And I get that but as mentioned he took at team that was WINLESS and in first year they went to bowl, and in 2nd year they are undefeated. Keep in mind that's only 2 years meaning that's not fully his players yet, it's the same team that was WINLESS so that's coaching.

The more you look into Frost and dig into his history youll like him more and more. He won a National championship at Nebraska playing QB. If you look into his coaching tree and who his influences are it's pretty impressive. He's been a successful offensive and defensive coordinator that's rare! This guy is special.

Am I saying he's my first choice? No.

I want to kick the tires on Petersen, Patterson, Franklin and few other proven guys. But if we get this guy I'm telling you he's special. I definitely don't want Florida to get him.

Next Urban Meyer type.

I wouldn't go that far to say he is the next Urban Meyer type, he literally has not beat 1 ranked team, not 1. Only up and comer that is proven that has a solid track record that looks like the next Urban Meyer is Matt Campbell

i'd be pumped if we got Scott Frost. dude just screams "i'm a winner".

he's heisman trophy, conf and national championship winning alpha male. i get why people have trepidation though. i don't have any. i think he could be an urban meyer...and even if he's only 85% of that, that's a heckuva a lot better than anything we've put out there in well over a decade.

but he's a guy that i'd hate to have to face elsewhere, like FL. if he does leave UCF, and it's not for us, then i do hope it's NE. but i'm betting our real competition for him is FL.

Dude I’m just on cloud nine still to know I don’t have to ever Hear Buzz Cuts voice again or him pacing the sidelines with his hands burried in his armpits . The next coach I still havnt made it there yet

I liked Frost because he's just a winner and Alpha male, but the whole trumpet in the band revelation has made me anti-Frost. My list has been defrosted.

Basilio is reporting that Mike Hamilton is saying it. Mike and John are friends so the rumor my have legs.

Don't shoot the messenger. Turn in now and listen for yourself.

Why the Hell would anyone tell Hamilton? And even if they did, why would he tell Basilio in an interview? If "Mike" is "John's" friend. he doesn't say Jack S**t about it. Cmon, dduncan, this is about as believable as if Grandpa Jones had ever tried to sing opera.

Because he could bail on us and go to his dream job... plus, he doesn't have a track record.

Frost has worked as a DC AND OC, along with individual position groups at QB, WR & LB!!! Those are the three main concerns of our team! Frost would be an amazing hire, in my opinion. Not to mention, if he doesn't want the stigma of going back to his alma mater (Similar to Manning) we could have our coach for the next 10+ years. Just make his buyout $20 million & we won't have to worry about it, anyway.

Basilio said that Currie and Hamilton are still close friends. He said Hamilton was very conifent that Frost is Currie's guy. I have no idea, just thought it was interesting.

I believe Kelly will never repeat the success he had at Oregon. Frost is just beginning to tap his potential.

Agree. BUT. Frost is a Husker and Nebraska is a dumpster fire. If we hire Frost and Nebraska dumps their coach...big risk of Kiffin 2.0. Then again he may want to make his own mark in the best conference in the country.
