Mike Gundy is getting what he deserves (now fired)

🤣 🤣

Yeah, I was just looking at that.

Golesh is on everyone's radar, but he's likely in a better position at USF than he would taking over a dumpster fire in Stillwater. He's a hot commodity and better jobs (and by that I mean those that can invest in an NIL program) will open this year.
Even a guy like Ben Arbuckle, who is in just his first year as OU's OC, is probably better off long-term staying where he's at. It's definitely a bet on Venables being able to get it fully turned around there, but if he does, he'll be in line for a much better HC job than Oklahoma St in a few years. Much less Golesh and Sumrall, who are already HCs. Monken is the OC of maybe the NFL's best offense. He'd get a big pay bump, but you also have to deal with so much non-football BS as a college HC. Especially at a job like Oklahoma St, because a big part of that job going forward is going to be trying to drum up NIL money.

The only one in that list who would definitely take that opportunity if offered is Zac Robinson, but Oklahoma St is probably shooting higher than that.

Gundys days were numbered as soon as the SEC passed on bringing Okie St in with OU and Texas and Gundy was super pissed about that and Bedlam no longer being played. I never like him he played us 3 times to get a raise. I’m glad we didn’t hire him but i will say he did rock the mullet.

Thing is, they were actually set up pretty well competition-wise to do well in the reconstituted Big 12. They have won 10 games and finished in the top 16 as recently as 2021 and 2023, right on the verge of OU and Texas leaving.

Their NIL situation isn't good, and although he hasn't been outspoken about it, I think he has some Dabo-like opinions about NIL.

People should root for his downfall because he leveraged other employer's interest to get a raise from his current employer?

You people are bizarre.

I think it's funny how when it comes to sports, the ethics and principles people cheer in virtually every other area of life are suddenly horirble, and sometimes vice versa.

Really surprised that they didn't let him finish the year the way we did with Fulmer.
Fulmer didn't lose 11 straight games to FBS teams on his way out. They have been unbelievably bad the last 15 games.

In more recent years, Gundy also had kind of a complicated relationship with his bosses (in addition to the poor performance on the field) that I think hastened his departure. You don't come to your longtime head coach with a new contract that cuts his pay, reduces his buyout, and reduces the term if things are going well. Hell, I think Fulmer got an extension and a raise the year before he was fired.

That's so well said. Equally applies to NIL and Portal as well.

It reminds me of the episode of The Office where Josh at Stamford leverages his offer from Dunder-Mifflin to get a higher paying job at Staples and the show depicts it as he's an evil greedy person and back when it originally came out I probably at the time agreed. And now when I watch it, I'm like "good for him."

Gundy screwed us over? How in the world can any coherent and sober person possibly come to that conclusion. 😂😂😂😂😂

I tend to agree with you.

Our ADs were the ones who approached HIM. People seem to be mad because he listened.

Gotta wonder if they would have been more upset if he just refused to meet with us point blank

Our program was in bad shape there for a while. We were humbled sufficiently. The dances with Gundy were all a part of that.

Honestly, I have few thoughts on Gundy. He's just there. Some positives and some negatives but no strong feelings either way.

The Cowboys list of their T5 candidates is kinda laughable though. Ok St is gonna have problems getting a coach with a "name". Golesh is pretty much gonna have his pick of the litter of open jobs. Why would he wanna go to Stillwater.
