Mike Griffith's tweet

Locking down the state would be wonderful, but good players are good players. The quality of this class vs. the number of instate prospects have nothing to do with each other. Stupid comment.

Why take the top talent in FL, GA, LA, and TX when you can get the top talent in TN?

We should quit recruiting texas...mostly disappointment IMO.

Until my son hits recruiting age that is :)
Will be baseball most likely, but will never drop UT for tu, I promise!

Hey guys let's take offense to what a reporter tweets who has no credible knowledge or experience in sports.

you nailed it!!!!

Only Vols fans would get riled up over someone who 95% of the people dont even know by name or face

My tweet about Griffith:

Seems as though the in-state talent of journalists covering UT is a bit off this year. #MikeGriffithknowssquat.

whoa there donkey! You may not know it but Griff is the (self-described) Steve Spurrier of 10yo girls competitive softball. The man shows no mercy

I dont think Tennessee did well by any means in-state this year. But the Top 24 argument is retarded by Griffith. Now if he would have said one of the Top 10 guys in-state his argument would hold a little more water with me. But there are not 24 prospects in this state that can play in the SEC and there are only half that who can play at a school in the SEC not named Vandy, Ole Miss or Kentucky.

If anything else, Griffith is consistent. He is constantly on Twitter trying to jab Vol fans with the "shouldn't have fired Fulmer" and "Dooley can't get the job" tweets. Do what I did - UNFOLLOW and let him know it.

"So Tennessee has only one of the state's Top 24 ranked prospects according to 24/7? And people are saying this is a good class? #GetReal"

100% disagree with him.
My question is how many of Tennessee's commits are ranked higher than the other 23 in-state recruits?

If we had sports reporters covering Tennessee as good as our recruiting class, we would be so much better off.

Most of them seem to be working for the schools we play and recruit against.

Why would you sign in-state talent when you can get better players elsewhere?

Ding! Ding! Ding! Just because they're from Tennessee doesn't automaticly make them the best players in the country. Your objective is to get the best players you can that will meet your needs, regardless of where they're from. It would be great if we had all those type player in-state but that doesn't happen anywhere.

We can go all across the country and pull prospects, but not Memphis? This has never made sense to me.

it's not that but rather we don't have a home field advantage when recruiting Memphis. We're basically on the same level as other school outside the region. At that point we need to focus on getting the best player instead of getting the guy with a TN zip code

I agree with this, however, with the prospects I mentioned more effort was merited. IMHO.

Couldnt be more wrong! Most of the kids here like UT and consider it the home team. Just ask or read the quotes from Maybin, Carr, Chris Walker, Dan Williams, Cam Clear, Tino Thomas, Greg King etc. etc. We just havent done a good job here in Memphis, and it started with Fulmer crapping on Memphis. Its about to change and people like you could help by not putting this crap on here for recruits to read. I live and work here and you would be shocked how many like UT. It will always be the most difficult because its the furthest place from campus and has lots of outside influence due to its tri-state location, but the facts are the facts.

By the way, in no way am I or anyone else saying take TN over more talented guys just because they are from TN. You only take the ones good enough to play and that fit the needs. However, the more in state talent you have, that favor your school, the easier the overall task becomes. Thats why its so important and why states with lots of talent have such an advantage.

Whoa, forgive me for my ignorance then. If he can throw his visor even half as far as Spurrier can I say he's next in line for the recruiting coordinator spot IMO

"most" is a huge leap. The fact is there are lots of SEC schools much closer and they have an edge in Memphis. Didn't think my post was breaking any news

Mike Griffith is a complete moron. Ask him how many Tennessee guys his boy Fulmer signed that never panned out.

Griffith is seriously getting to be on Hyams level. He has no clue. Football or basketball.

Memphis has also proven to be a hotbed of coaching corruption over the last ten years.

Proximity matters as much or more than any other factor in recruiting. That isn't just a flippant opinion.

exactly. TN HS football is garbage. If Griffith were head coach he'd just give schollies to the KNS all district team and be done with it.

Who would you want out of the TN top 10 for 2012? Robinson shouldn't count, he's going to JUCO. Mathers dislikes UT. Kimbrow is tiny and we passed on him according to all reports. We got a better QB than Voytik, IMO. We might end up with better CBs than Redmond, but that is debatable. Dawson wasn't leaving the West TN/North MS area, plus he apparently didn't have a good camp with us.

So, outside of Redmond and Hill, I just don't see an argument.

You missed my point. I wasn't even talking about 10 guys in particular. I was simply saying that had he cut the argument to say 10 guys instead of 24 his argument would look a little more valid. I was just giving out 10 as a ball-park figures.

As for me, Jelks, Hill (Massively Underated), Redmond and Kimbrow are guys I would have liked for sure. At least one offensive lineman in this class would have been nice and there were definitely some good ones in-state this year.

I think Robinson is probably the top overall guy in the state this year but his grade questions certainly draw a red flag. Then again I'll have to see it to believe it when it comes for him not suiting up for Auburn next year. Brandon Fulse seemingly had no chance last year at this time and we all know how that turned out.
