When's the last time Butch Jones played a RS freshman where they weren't the starter and it panned out?

Listen, CBJ is a seniority type of guy until it becomes just disasterous

The good news is there not another qb with a RS that we'd have to wonder about...so we got that going for us

wow, creating a qb controversy out of nothing here. Let's wait til we actually have some practices before we begin with the quarterback controversy. I remember guys early in the season last year at games saying "put in Dormady" and "Dormady should be in instead of Dobbs". There will be plenty of time for the coach to make the best decision for the team. Pretty sure Butch wants to succeed and keep his job. :pilot:

Like he did by keeping Hurd in when Kamara should have been the go to RB. I don' t know how much faith I have in Butch. Of course Hurd deserves some of credit for not giving his all and giving up at the end.

I'm aware this QB competition is a little different and neither of them are true freshman, but expect to see an Ainge/Schaeffer type of situation all the way up until Florida week. Not until the very day of the game will he name a starting QB, and that will only be eternally to the team. There is no reason to announce it publicly, so he won't. We might as well ensure it so that UF has to take the time and equally prepare for the both of them.

Butch as HC at Cincinnati has played two QB's before depending on the "hot hand" and situation. Certain packages are loaded for each qb and that list of options grows as the season progresses.

This is a good and bad.

Beat writers know everything. We will see if this actually happens or not.

He did that in Cincinnati. For those like me who want Guarantano to win the job, this is great news! Jones typically favors the QB with more exprience (see Worley vs Dobbs), but if true, Guarantano can have more opportunity to win the job. This may say something about Guarantano's ability that Jones is coming out with talk like the QB's are very close right now because you would expect Dormady to be ahead with his experience as #2 on the depth chart.

there is no way they want to go in to this season w/2 qb's. with as much transition as this team is going to face this year, having indecision at the QB spot would be detrimental, and mean that probably neither one did enough to get more meaningful reps.

competition...yes. possibly prevent a transfer....probably so. be prepared to, so you have a plan b, yeah, makes sense.

as a bonafide strategy for success....no.

To respond to your post and the post you responded to.. Glass half full - glass half empty. However, both make good points. As they relate to the big picture, glass half full, glass half empty.
