I've been on board through thick and thin. I have gone more than 15 years without missing a single game. Home road or bowl. If they laced it up, I was there. I've missed weddings, funerals, birthdays etc etc etc just to watch this team play. I'm willing to bet there are fewer than 1 or 2 other people on this board who can make such a claim. I'm here to say that if we make this hire.....it will be the straw that broke my back. I'm sick and freaking tired of crap hires like this. Look at who our peers are getting....and the best we can do is this guy. I'm serious. If this goes down....I'm done. If the program isn't more dedicated to winning that that.....I'm not going to be as dedicated at watching them.

You are going to get hammered.

Well Michigan fans have something to go on. If they don't like him now there is a reason. More like us horse laughing when FSU to Sunseri and you see how that turned out. There two years and when he was run off last week FSU fans rejoiced.

You suppose they might be upset about their read/option era?

Since you put so much money into the program surely you have your very own personal "Butch signal", right? Or maybe (like me) you opted for the "Butch phone." Or maybe you're the high roller who got the "Butchmobile." It has pre-programmed coordinates to automatically take you to Butch's secret hideout day or night.

Point being someone so vital to the program has more direct ways to contact Butch, right? Right!!

To the Batmo..... errrrrrr... Butchmobile!

No. Not a "high roller" at all. Just a fan with season tickets which aren't event on the side of the stadium. Don't make big donations and don't sit on the 50 yd line. Your point was??? somehow I missed it.

You're going to stop being a Vols fan because of an offensive coordinator hire?

Butch is banking on his offense, emphasis on HIS, to explode in 2015 and especially 2016.

He doesn't want to start over with anyone else's offense, even if it's similar to the one we currently run.

Dobbs will be in year 3 of this offense next year and is on the verge of having a huge year. DeBord will call all the plays that Dobbs is already familiar with.

The biggest reason that DeBord is the top candidate is because A) He can help fix the OL and B) He's NOT a hot name right now. That means he won't come in with an ego and he won't demand to bring his own playbook (good luck getting a "sexy" hire to toss their playbook in the trash).

Butch wants a guy who will call plays from the Butch Jones playbook while bringing value and experience in other areas. If you read between the lines in his interviews, that's exactly what he has said.

This team will live and die by Butch's offense, because it's not going anywhere. Reinventing the wheel at this point would only set the team back.

Don't remember saying that. Just that I was done using a ton of vacation and frequent flyer miles to follow them all over the place.

This idea that a OC "doesn't matter" is crazy. If our head coach is so close minded that he will hire a janitor to fill his OC slot, we have much bigger issues.

That's cute. That meme is like the 2nd most used meme on the internet. As a matter of fact, it's about as old as the leading canaanite for our OC position.

Figured that out in 5 posts huh? :)

"Canaanite"?...we invading The Promised Land?

I'm not disputing anything you said.
I'm just warning you.
Welcome to the land of negavolism. From this day forward anything you post will be attacked.

Stick with Doyle...he'll keep you warm at night.

It's obvious that some of you have made your minds up already on this hire, but DeBord has OC experience and won a national championship FFS. He's not a scrub who is going to call plays like a 12-year-old boy playing Madden.

Butch said he wants a guy who will improve the staff as a whole--not someone who is regarded as an offensive genius (and really--how many are there?).

The offense is already set, but I imagine DeBord may help him add some pro-style wrinkles. OSU's offense comes to mind.

Do you really want Butch to hire a guy who will scrap the existing offense and start over with something new?

When it's clicking, this offense is a thing of beauty, and it's in position to click right out of the gate next season and only get better. Starting over would be a huge mistake right now.

Meh, the offense is staying the same no matter the OC that comes in here and I believe that is a good thing. Like most everyone I would like to see us tweak our short yardage game a little and it might have been nice to have a coach other than Thig that can say the word Vol correctly but hey........
