Mike Bianchi article about the program

Is Pruitt our new Miata convertible? Yeah maybe it’s a Florida thing

I’ll give you the analogy based on the way I think Tennessee fans view the program.

Tennessee fans view the program as a cool dude in his 20’s that has a Ferrari. But, the Ferrari has been in a wreck and needs to be repaired. But, the dude is too dumb or too cheap to take it to the right mechanic, so he’s still getting around town picking up chicks with a bus pass until he can get the Ferrari fixed.

The writer is saying no. You’re the guy in his early 50’s with the beer gut, 1998 Miata and the awesome comb over. You think you’re still that cool dude, but you ain’t. And you can’t figure why others don’t see you the way you see yourself.

I think that’s what he trying to say.

I see it more as the Ferrari in the shop. But, I’m also acknowledging more and more that it’s quite possible that the car has been totaled

The Tennessee athletic department.

We go lease a Miata and pay Ferrari prices. The Miata barely works and we extend the lease and pay Lamborghini prices.

We go against schools that have Ferraris, Corvettes, and Lamborghinis.

We then decide to challenge those schools to a drag race....
If you're going to play in the same sandbox you have to get your hands dirty, or get out of the sandbox.

Much better analogy 👍🏻

Looks like it is ready for the crusher.

When your name comes out like this it’s only a matter of time until Hubbs and co start hearing things and it’s time for Pruitt to rent rather than own...

Is Mullen always so arrogant and ungracious in his comments after a win or does he just particularly hate Pruitt for some reason? Admittedly, I haven't listened to him much, but what I have heard and seen from him, he really comes off as a douche.

I can take his douchery because he's earned it on the field.

Reality is a good thing. Too bad this article won’t make it to Fulmer.

Much better analogy 👍🏻

I think this somewhat sums it up, as well:

We are currently at the bottom! Six game losing streak (by double digits) has to be considered bottoming out! We were told it would take three years, minimum, to get competitive and this year and his first year don't count since he only had 10 days if recruiting in the first class, and Covid negated this season. So by that calender, we have to give JP two more years before we can assess his work. I'm pretty sure heads will explode on here by then and that might actually be the most entertaining thing we've seen around UT Football since 2006!

GO VOLS!!!

Other than the "never will be what they were" comment and the possible suggestion that Fulmer shouldn't have been fired... pretty spot on.

OTOH, others have hired coordinators with resumes worse than Pruitt's and been successful. Others have hired the "hot name" and ended up firing them after they weren't able to replicate previous success- Chad Morris, Sumlin, Strong,....

There are no guarantees in coaching hires. But there is required wisdom on the part of the AD and boosters. You have to make the change at the right time. You cannot wait too long. That's the greatest argument for firing Pruitt now. The next guy would start with a good roster and could probably salvage a pretty solid recruiting class. He probably wouldn't even have to replace the whole staff which can help with continuity and keeping players from bolting. This doesn't seem like a staff so tight that loyalty to Pruitt would get in the way. Some might even welcome a change.

Yeah.... and it is a horrible analogy that essentially says a program with all the resources, history, and fan support you need to win... can never win again.... that all is left is to age and die.

1. Bullocks to you for making us click this.

2. “Even though nobody else was even considering hiring Pruitt, the Vols signed him to a contact worth nearly $4 million a year. They could have easily signed him for $2 million year and he would have taken the job...”. Source?
His opinion only but it sounds reasonable to me.

Fulmer's inbox should be flooded with that little gem.... For about a week solid...
I like to see his face reading it. Even more for the decision makers at UT. There should be earthquake rattling, office destroying temper tantrums going on in the halls of the Administration ( if they care).

I think the over abundance of arrogance wouldn't allow it.
